There should be a term for guys on eBay who claim to be great authority on the items they have up for sale, but obviously don't have a clue.

Here's one that's being entertaining this weekend:
Sawtooth expert
Check out the questions and answers.
I can understand someone making a mistake in a listing...I see it all the time. It's the seller's comments in the Q&A that are the real head-spinner:
Link to Mac Xclaim VR with Rage Pro chipset
I've no problem with people making mistakes...but that combination of rude arrogance and ignorance (ie - he only needed to check Google to verify) it gets up my nose.
Despite his good feedback, he's now in my "don't buy from" list...unless he's selling one of those rare Sawtooth Quadra 950s.
Total road apple. Apple made a few mistakes during Sculley's tour, and this one is nearly always overlooked. You check all the cables, have yer CDs all stacked in order for rapid exchange during the new OS install (it runs Gershwin, right?), but no matter what, when ya go to boot, expecting to see at least a kernel panic, ya just can't get the darned thing to exist! (so boot completely fails, and I don't think looking for the kuda button or rearranging the ram will help any)

Right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up with this country being sick and tired. I'm certainly not and I'm sick and tired of being told that I am.
Well, I meet a lot of people, and I'm convinced that the vast majority of wrong-thinking people are right.
I just found this page at the Apple Museum which seems to substantiate, at least partially, his claim about the codename:
http://www.theapplemuseum.com/index.php?id=30
What's the story? Oh wait. I thought it said PCI Graphics there for Sawtooth. I must be getting dyslexic along with all the prebyoptia. Sorry. I've never seen the B&W referred to as Gossamer II before, though.
that guy seems like a retard when it comes to computers, Thanks for showing it cause he is now blocked. i hope he gets what he deserves ( like a dispute from the buyer )
i feel bad for the person that bought the mobo. the person that bought it either knew it was a Yikes mobo and bought it for that reason, or the person dont know much about Mac models and there capability's.
all the info on different Mac models can be found from everymac.com, Mac tracker, so simply typing Sawtooth G4 mobo spec ( or diffrent) prolly he would have found out there was never a PCI Sawtooth that has a zif CPU socket.
Here's the Apple Museum list of Apple desktop code names:
http://www.theapplemuseum.com/index.php?id=22
According to it, the code name for the G4 AGP Graphics was the "P5" or "Project E." So it was only the motherboard which was code named "Sawtooth," while the whole computer was "P5" or "Project E." Also according to these two Apple Museum pages, the G4 PCI Graphics computer was the "Yikes!", but the other page does not have a code name for the PCI Graphics motherboard. The B&W computer is the "Yosemite," while it's motherboard is the "Gossamer II."
I find nothing from a search on Apple's website which gives a list of code names. Does anyone know of such an "official" listing?
and told him all the information to use on it, that would make his listing correct. He said
"Piss off, what they don't know, won't hurt them"
In those exact words
I have contacted eBay on a fraudulent listing since the guy is so against selling legitimately and being so arrogant and wanting to screw someone over. Would be such a sad thing if something this stupid were to screw up his Positive feedback. But then again, if he wants to be like that, it would be best that he got negative feedback for the load of **** that he is trying to sell. I haven't heard back from eBay, but I also gave them the correct information of what the item is, with a link to pics and stuff. Let's see what their word is.
i also contacted eBay about that item and how he was misleading them and that he was being real negative toward the people that was trying to help him to correct his listing . so they know now, but will they even care ( proly not).
Um, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that he knowingly was misleading them. He most likely believed himself when he listed. His arrogant closing his ears to correction is another thing. Complaining to eBay is usually pointless. You end up filling out forms which is time consuming and leads to nothing. I'm sure eBay gets thousands of complaints everyday and follows up on one or two. Nothing they could or would do anyway. It's your word against his. EBay is 99.9% buyer beware. If the auction winner gets what he didn't expect, he'll leave negative feedback and have to deal with the seller who may or may not face reality and his own morality.
Speaking of morality, I just got a PM from someone that reads, "hey, i'm a new user and i was told that you can get cheat codes from this site, are you able to talk right now?" I don't even know what a cheat code is. Is this something Tom should be notified about?
Probably some kid who misunderstands what we mean by hacks. I wouldn't bother with it unless it gets annoying or he starts spamming a lot of people. If it's annoying you, by all means, email or PM one of the admins.
Just so happens I found a Yikes! on the side of the road today (the bulky item trash pickup is this week). Had a bad video card which I replaced and now it seems to work fine. Anyway, when I go to Apple System Profiler it says:
Machine Model: Power Mac G3 (PCI Graphics)
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.6)
The Yikes! definitely was a lost child between the G3's and G4's. Certainly room to get confused about. LowEndMac gave it a Road Apple rating because of it's weak status here and here. Even with all the wild claims by that seller, he could have been forgiven, especially if he had shown some humility and willingness to listen to others. He did the opposite, so what he put out came back at him in spades. Another lesson about the workings of the universe. Om mani padme hum...
Wasn't the case design code-named El Capitan? I'm pretty sure that case design continued to be used well through the Sawtooth G4 with only color differences...
Peace,
Drew
