Listas,
I'm about to move my Lombard out of OS 9 into X. It's got a 400Mhz processor, 384 MB RAM and a 15GB drive. It may be just a writing machine but I could put an early version of Dreamweaver, Word and Photoshop on it. I'm looking for stability, not pushing any limits. May keep the wireless card, may not. (Since with X it will be more web-compatible.) Got 10.3.9 on my Pismo but I don't know if the Lombard is up to that.
Any ideas?

My Lombard (400 MHz) has been running Panther (10.3.9) on a 20GB HD for over 2 years, and hasn't complained yet. I did upgrade to 512 MB RAM from 256, and that did make it a bit snappier.
provides Excellent speed w/o having to sacrifice power to other unneeded stuff (like spotlight or Dashboard). Although you can turn them off, most of the stuff in Tiger is unneeded and sometimes downright useless unless you are a power user. 10.3.9 will give the best speed and consume less memory. Also, it provides most features that Tiger does. I Consider myself a Power User on Tiger, but don't use half the features on Tiger because it's useless unless you are in a corporate office and have had proper training in it.
I still consider SpotLight like Sherlock. It's not worth much right now. Until we get into 10.5 (i have used the beta, quite not there yet... mail doesn't launch) it's not going to be fully utilized.
Frittalistas,
Thanks for the input. Looks like 10.3.x is going on the old girl. Still have OS9 on a ziffed Biege G(4) and sometimes I really miss the old OSes. They were warm and fun. This X stuff is cold and distant. Yeah, yeah, it works better but I miss Apple Computer and have little feelings for the futuristic Apple, Inc. Just ain't got no soul.
Thanks again. I appreciate it.
