I'm trying to identify my new G4 Powerbook. The model number is M8407. I looked at some sites that have Mac specifications but nothing matches.
It is a Titanium G4 Powerbook, no VGA ports of any kind, no USB ports, just a single IR port at the left rear, and a headphone jack on the left side. It has a slot loading drive, although atm I am installing OS X onto a fresh drive so I don't have the ability to look up what System Profiler says.
I know M8407 should be a quick identification, but most of the G4 models I hve seen are all sopposed to have some form of VGA out, but this doesn't unless someone swapped logic boards. Any ideas?
you CAN run system profiler off of the install disc. Take a look at the menus.

Heh heh heh, yeah. Somebody's gonna feel a bit silly once they see they missed that . . .
However, you can pop the battery and look inside its compartment for the build label - that'll give you more details.

PS: back panel is made of steel, not Ti. It's held shut with a magnet inside the case back.
That actually narrows down the models. It's either a 400/500 mhz tibook or a 550/667 tibook. Both will have vga ports.
I know the model #, M8407..but I can't find references to that specific model number online.
There are NO VGA out ports, NO USB ports, but all the specifications for this series of Mac say there should be. Also, there is a modem installed inside but no modem connector. I can get some photos if that would help.
It's a 550Mhz G4.
The modem is a MicroDash, Apple Version 2.6.3. Interface is USB. Which doesn't make sense. It also lists a Firewire 400 Bus but again, NO Firewire ports at all.
Check out the photo here to see the backside of a G4. If you don't see the same thing, check for the flap as mentioned above.
Very interesting. Since I've never owned a Powerbook G4, I never knew that back panel was actually a flip door, much like the older Wallstreets.
It's far too simple and thus it is far too complicated. Hiding in plain sight.

if it is infact a enducational tibook, and system profiler lists as firewire 400 bus and a usb bus, it wouldnt be to hard to solder on connectors (carefully of course!) and turn it into an even more powerful book
