Ok, I have a question about these things. I am correct in saying that They are identical to AirPort cards they just dont have the antenna curcuitry, there for they are smaller. (also why any airport capable machine ahs an antena in the chasis) NOw heres teh real question: Ive sen some iBOok mods that let you use a regulatr wavelan in place of the airport card in its internal AirPort slot, (with the plastic removed from the card). Now, Is this possible in a G4 Sawtooth or.... not? Also, if so, (i know there isnt enough space in between the socket and case) Would it be possible to use a bus extender thing like they do for PCI agp and ISA?
//wthww
You could just chop the frame at the front where the antenna-equipped card would interfere with closing the case. Probably easier than trying to extend an AirPort (basically a cardbus) slot.

has anyone here ever installed a wavelan or similar card into a powermac g4?
If it's original AP, and not APE, then it's like old PCMCIA. PCMCIA can run over decent distances. I've got a ISA-PCMCIA card that had internal cable that are nearly a foot long to a 5.25" drive bay with the sockets.
EDIT: ISA not PCI...
I'm sure I've tried this before . . . I'm also sure others have as well . . but let's see . . . pull one oRiNoCo silver card from desk drawer (and extracting it from SL iMac adapter into which it was stuck) . . . one QS G4 sits on desk . . . open QS's door . . . OK, stick card into slot (can't close door of course) . . . fire up Mac . . . start System Prefs/Network . . . heh, the 'puter says there's a new port! (an AirPort in fact!!) . . . configure, use, works great.
That answer the question?

ps: this an old Lucent chipped OrInOcO PC24E-11-FC/R, previously flashed to 128bit, it had its plastic antenna cover removed for the iMac install testing (not that that last bit matters at all.)
THen how about the reverse. Can you stick a cardbus card into that slot? like lets say... My SCSI-II Toast-n-Jam card (I love that name. Its purple and brown too) Could it work?
As I posed just below, original AP is regular, 16-bit non-CardBus PCMCIA. APE is more mini-PCI, IIRC, not CardBus.
Not unless you can write the hooks the system needs to see it as a pukka PCcard slot. In any case, as Jon mentions, it's not really a cardbus slot anyhow, even though it's keyed as such.
FYI, just for giggles-and-stuff, right after I did the above test of the Silver card, I tried a Mac-supported Buffalo-chipped 802.11g card in the same slot, no joy. Didn't figure it'd show up but didn't hurt to try (as far as I know at least.)

yea just like my Belkin Wireless G+ PCI card (works in OS X great but dont in classic.
