I don't wanna go outside

It's -3 before factoring in windchill right now, was -10 last night (-20 with windchill). It's pretty nasty out. My wife's newish car took three tries to start, while my ratty beater started on the first try.

Ya know, I've been thiking about this all weekend: what can we mere mortals do about these harsh Midwestern winters? I think I've finally come up with a solution.

Groundhog stew. Think about it: no groundhog, no shadow.

Okay, maybe it needs a little work (or at least a good recipe). But it's a start.

I don't know of any reason that reasonable, intelligent people would put themselves in such a position.

The high is gonna be 60 here in D/FW... I think I'll go for a walk, take in some sun...

It wasn't nearly that cold this morning (it was closing in on single digits fahrenheit), but I still rode my bicycle to the bus stop, as usual.

I did have the pleasure of riding the bike to work at -1F with WC into the negative double digits back on Jan 16th. I was definitely wearing ski goggles for that. The clothing I was wearing would have likely kept me roasty toasty to at least -15F, and suitably warm to -25F with the exception of my gloves.

There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing choices.

I'm going to worry about you guys while I'm in the ocean today. Bright, sunny days, clear skies, light tropical winds. Whales are jumping. I saw one of the most amazing sunsets ever yesterday on my way home from the beach. But it's February, and the cloudless skies means cold nights. Gets down to around 60 at about 4am! I think we almost broke a low record a couple of nights ago for that day--somewhere in the mid-50's. Anyone wanna see that video again of Honolulu getting trashed by a mega-tsunami?

My 11 year old toyota corolla fired right up the same as it always does, temps got to about 3 deg F. a few of the cars i worked on today though were much newer and didnt sound too happy when i turned the key.....

I for one like the cold, it's -1ºF right now with windchill in my town but it gets down to almost the negative double digits at night

We're due for -31F this week here in Calgary. Won't be the first time this winter either.

My 20 year old Audi doesn't like the extreme cold temperatures, but she's never refused to start for me :D.

As for dressing for the cold, a Cashmere coat, scarf and wook ushanka can't be beat!

I've been thinking about moving to Rochester, Minnesota. I just checked weather.gov and it shows a low of -11 there today.

After seeing temperatures like that I am liking that possibility a lot less. I've lived in Texas my whole life and 50 is deathly cold for me. Too bad it gets so cold otherwise I think I would really like it.

It was about -3 here this morning (not factoring windchill) and my 20 year old car started on the first try after having been outside all night. It ran like crap for a few minutes until the engine warmed up a bit, but, thats to be expected.

I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia until my family moved to Sunny Florida in summer of 97. Those first two years of dealing with the heat, humidity, and lack of weather variety (hot weather, warm weather, and rain) were horrible.It took three years to completely acclimate to Florida after spending the first fifteen years of my life in the northeast (new york city and the philly area).

As someone who grew up with the four seasons and being used to the change and variety that come with it, winter and the winter holidays were always really hard for me in florida when the 50's were as cold as it got. I moved back to Pennsylvania, albeit farther west than I had ever been in the state. Everyone thought I was insane (some still do) for moving to Pittsburgh from Tampa, but I don't regret it one bit.

Acclimating back to the cold weather in PA has been easier for me than it was to acclimate to the warm weather of florida.

right now, the temps are @ 11 Deg. F. but during the winter, it will get all the way down to ~ -30 in the middle of winter (at night) and as hot as 120 Deg F in the summer. And that's also got the added humidity, which can make it seem like it's 140 Deg. All this here in Nebraska.

Our city also has the habit of rain skipping around us in the summer. Right when we need it most. when rain comes, 90% of the time, it will go either North or south of us, and regroup in iowa after it passes us.

Strange, I'm in rochester, ny and it's 4 degrees out, would have expected it to be the reverse. My car has been starting up after a little work (the battery is junk but not getting a new one until next or or this one completely dies), but the car isn't too happy about the cold. Once the engine warms up though, the cold air makes the turbo work perfectly.

it's been hovering around 100F max here for the last few days, with lows around 70 overnight. Right now it's 70 indoors in the coolest part of the house, and that's with no AC.

Balmy 19F outside right now as I pack the ol' MacBook up and hop on the bike. I'm almost tempted to pack some swimming trunks and popsicles.

I talked to a guy yesterday who grew up in LA. He also had lived in SF and Seattle before moving here to Kansas City. He said he liked the weather here because it had all 4 seasons, just like on TV shows. They never had seasons in LA, and Seattle had daily rain for 75% of the year, and SF was just too expensive.

Another guy there (who might end up reading this, hi Alex!) grew up in Panama. It had seasons. Rainy and dry, really rainy, and not so rainy.

My sister grew up here in Iowa, and now lives in LA. She told me once she sort of missed the change of seasons.

Yeah, I replied, I know what you mean ...

Winter, road construction, winter, road construction, winter, ...

...because it had all 4 seasons, just like on TV shows.

Shoot, we gots four seasons here in Texas...
