Unsupported Camera Support?

I just acquired a nifty little camera for next to nothing, and it works just fine... With a PC. I plug the USB cable into a Mac, and I get a big fat nothing.

The camera is a Philips PJ44416 "Micro slim digital camera." It came (new in the package) with only a USB cable and a lanyard; no software at all. Philips website has no reference to it at all, which is a bit weird.

Actually, it does show up in System Profiler (10.3.9) as a "Dual-Mode Digital Camera", Speed: Up to 12Mb/sec, Product ID: 271($10f), Vendor ID: 2362. But neither iChat nor iPhoto recognize the camera, and the Finder doesn't mount its 8MB of storage.

Anybody know of any tricks to get this puppy to work with iPhoto on a Mac?

IDK about iPhoto. If the OS

IDK about iPhoto. If the OS doesn't recognize the storage, that may be a lost cause.

There is a program called iChatUSBcam that will connect *most* USB cameras to work with iChat AV. I don't remember where to find it, but it was like a $9 share ware program. I'm sure a google search for ichatusbcam would yield some results.

Try http://webcam-osx.sourcef

Try http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/ Just because it's not on their list doesn't mean it won't work. It just may mean that noone has sent in an "It works!" report for a particular model.

Phillips Cam ALERT!

Hello,
I am currently using (and very happy with ) thier product MACAM ver. 0.8.4 but I would definitely check their website to be sure about your camera!

06.02.2002: WARNING! THERE HAVE BEEN CASES WHERE USING WC HAS MADE PHILIPS WEBCAMS UNUSABLE! I am currently investigating the cause of this, but without Philips' documentation, that's a difficult job. Please keep in mind that you use this software on your own risk! Updates on this issue will be posted here.

Good call on the warning, but

Good call on the warning, but I wonder if it's still valid. It's almost 6 years old.

Phillips cam warning

That is true enough ( almost 4 years old) but since I saw it I figured if they did'nt update this problem there may be 1 less Phillips cam in the world. "Better to regret something I have done, than something I have'nt". I have seen people try to install programs time and again without reading any Doc's (RTFM) and ruin perfectly good equipment so I just thought I'd post what I know.

lost cause

I recently made the mistake of purchasing the same camera.. the Philips PJ44416. After a ridiculous amount of frustration, I opted to take it out with me when I went skeet shooting and blast it to smithereens... much more satisfying than getting my $30 bucks back!

well there is also IOxperts.

well there is also IOxperts. they also have USB webcam drivers. but the bad thing is they charge for them. i have a GE Easycam HO98063. i tryed IOxperts free trial and no support. i then found Macam's driver and it found it but it seen it as the trust spacecam (if you look at it there the same cams just repackaged. it works atleast in tiger but its by far good working. the app used to evable it crashes sometimes when adjusting the cam. the app causes a conflict with my wireless usb cam which causes the cam to stop working. i have submitted all that info to there bug report site on sourceforge. hopefully they resolve the issues i also submitted a log file of the crases of the app.
