Help

A while i hacked together a 5500 in a light bright case to serve MP3's on my network and home theater. Now all the sudden when I play music over the network it skips. It doesnt skip when playing directly on the computer though. Do you think the problem is in the network or the computer (My HD is almost full and i don't have that much ram eather)???

Given that the computer works

Given that the computer works just fine when you play it directly, then I'd guess it's the network. It would do the same amount of work either way, unless you added in some differant software that only runs when its networked.

What are you using for the networking?

Any changes?

Have you made any changes to your network recently?

some possibilities

1. I assume you have tried restarting?

2. If you have virtual memory turned on and the hard disk is almost full, you might be having performance problems as it swaps things to and from the HD.

3. You might try mucking around with the preferences files. I have found that some OS 9 problems can be cured by removing preference files that change frequently (and seem to get corrupted after a while). The OS will either reconstruct a fresh copy or you might have to re-enter some setup data (like the network settings or User & Groups settings). If you create a fresh copy of some preference file that seems to cure the problem, save a copy of it from reuse if the problem occurs again.
