best web browser for windows 95

i know that this goes everything mac, but ive got this old toshiba laptop with 16mb of memory, and i was just wondering if anybody had any web browser suggestions. ive tried a few versions of netscape, but the early versions have a refresh problem where they point to a null page, like on AF, and the older versions run horrible. Any suggestions?

Firefox might be a bit heavy

Firefox might be a bit heavy for that machine. 16mb does go a long way on older machines, so long as you use period software.

I suggest sniffing around http://browsers.evolt.org/ they have a wide selection of older browsers. try some older versions of mozilla, PERHAPS an early version of FF (I run FF 2.0 on a dell (what I am typing this on) which has only 64mb of ram, and runs windows ME. it seems to run it fine) or perhaps Opera.

hope that helps.

and no, you are not doing anything wrong if you have a windows PC, it's just your on the wrong sideof the tracks. good thing I know about (most) platforms, so I can help alot of people.

Seamonkey

Maybe you could choose Mozilla Seamonkey.
It's got the GUI of the earlier Netscape versions but the newer Gecko rendering engine.

Well, There's Always IE 5...

Sometimes, you have to bite the bullet, swallow your pride and look to good ol' Big Bro... I mean kindly Uncle Bill and use an earlier version of Internet Explorer, preferably 5.0 (I think 5.01 might choke), as it was really the last one to play nice with Windows 95. The RAM will be an issue for certain. Certainly worth a try...

Peace,
Rob

ie installer on CD

Gobabushka-
I (sad to admit) have a copy of IE 5 on CD. I'll have to see how many MB it is, but looks like I could put it into one of those file dropbox places on the net and let you d/l it.

I guess kindly Unka Bill is finally letting some of his older stuff go.

Whooops. Forgot one trick. Try this:

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=msie

See if that'll get you going.

Mike
