Yes, 9.2.2 should run on any G3...
Thanks, i shal try it
There's OS9 Helper, but you shouldn't need it for a Beige G3.
OS 9.2.2 is completely compatible with the Beige G3.
That said, some OS 9 installers will take offence at an install attempt on a different machine than the one the CD shipped with.
There may also be initial incompatibilities with the default-installed video drivers, etc. and you may need to start with extensions off to de-select a few things (this happened with the default ATI drivers and the Radeon 9000 card in my previous G4).
Wow, my fist real time posting. thnaks for the help guys. and *thankyou* eeun. i couldnt figure out why that darned ATI card was giving me probs :p.
I have found that the 9.0.4 CD that shipped with my SE DV iMac works fine with all of my G3 and G4 Macs including my OldWorld PDQ, but bitches when I try to use it with anything pre-G3 even though it contains the components specific to that system.
When working with pre-G3 systems I just use the disk image on the restore CD and if needed, sneak some individual parts out of the installer tombs on the install CD.
Just my experience, dunno what others have found.
The only iMac restore disc that didn't really care what it was being used to boot (old world, new world, didn't matter), was the disc set for the original tray load iMacs. The 8.1, 8.5, and 8.6 discs didn't have much issue booting old world machines. Then again, those tray load iMacs were transitional machines, having both old world and new world hardware on the logic board. (adb, floppy, and serial ports are present on those logic boards).
As for OS 9 discs, it's hit or miss. Though, generally, the machine has to be of the same vintage as the disc typically.
