Wow. Today was an interesting day for thrifting. I used to be a big time thrifter,I would hit all the shops at least once every 2 weeks. Well in the last year, I bascially quit thirfting. Well today I was driving home and decided to pop in at my local Salvation Army (usually the worst of all the thrifts).
I was browsing in there and getting ready to leave when I saw a 2 gs sitting in a corner. The price tag on it was 1.99 and I was like "oh hmm, thats a decent deal" so I grabbed it. I discovered on the way out that it was 1/2 price day so it was 99 cents.
Paid and left. Got in the car and examined the unit. It wasn't one of the common woz units (I have a few of those) so I was thinking that this might be a decent newer one.
Popped open the hood and was taken aback by all the cards in the slots. Realized that I might have something speical and went back to work.
Well tonight, I opened it backup and took inventory of the cards. It has only 4 but they are nifty ones. The first card I'm not really sure about. Its some sort of audio card. It says "Copyright 1987 Applied Visions INC designed by GSE for Applied Visions". I have no idea what it is or what it does.
Next card is a ZIP GSX accellrator. I guess its a nice cpu acccellrator but I don't know the details of it.
Then comes the ram upgrade card. It is a OCTORAM by Midideas. It has 8 30 pin sim slots all filled up. 8 megs of ram? Rather nifty for a system that traces its roots back to what was orignally designed with 16-48k of ram in mind.
Lastly is a scsi card. At first I was dissappointed to find that it wasn't a Apple brand scsi card but rather it is a RAMfast scsi card. Turns out that is the most desireable of all the apple scsi cards.
All in all, i was very pleased with my 99 cent investment. 
Now to dig up all my old APpple stuff and start playing again.
So are you going to keep and use it, or just part it out and sell it on ebay?
I'm probably going to keep it. I'm a collector and horder, not a money milker. I had fun with my old GS a few years ago but put it to bed because I didn't have a hard drive or any other toys for it, but now I could actually have a decent setup. I don't even have to open up my boxed Apple 2 scsi card I found a year ago or so.
The only thing I would like now is a means of connecting the computer to my network.
With GS/OS 6 you can connect the IIgs to a 68K Mac using the printer port and appletalk.
Has anyone made a actual network card for a 2gs?
awesome score.. practically my dream IIGS right there. I can only hope to be as lucky as you one day.
As far as ethernet.. there is the (expensive) LanceGS and the much more sensible uther ethernet card. You might struggle with getting much software to support them though.
