Well, I have a PB 1400 and I have an Airport card - I can't in good conscience keep the two apart!
I'll be running OS 8.6 or maybe 9.1 - are there any pitfalls I should be aware of before I start or will the installer be able to handle things OK?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Airport is technically not PCMCIA- Apple switched two pins, and which two it is is still a mystery.
And, yes, I've finally come to AF2. Still going to stay on AF1 as long as it exists, tho'.

You would have to find what pins were switched and un switch them(there have been rumors that Apple had a setup that adapted the airport slot to standard PCMCIA)
Its doable but no ammount of wishing is going to get the AP card to work as a PCMCIA card as is. The Orinoco drivers should work fine once you unswitch the pins. The AP cards are based off the same chipset so you should be able to use those.
The Airport drivers are going to be useless tho' since it needs a system with Cardbus support (which is long after the 1400)
To be honest it would be better to sell the Airport card and get a true WaveLAN card.

I do have an Elsa MC-11 Airlancer card - perhaps the Orinoco driver will run that. The only problem is that I can't get onto www.orinocowireless.com, is there a mirror site that anyone knows of?

The sub folders have various releases of Wavelan driver.
Although I have to say I have not tested any of these drivers!
I've used the v6 driver with a Dell-branded Orinoco card on a PB1400 running OS 8.1. You need to hack the driver using ResEdit to insert the identification for the card. But that shouldn't be necessary under OS >=8.5 because you can run the v7 driver.

Presumably you got version 7 from a disk with the card?
Go up a couple of levels in their ftp directory and then down again - you'll find it.
