I have an old 242dl volvo that is working ok so far, but it's eletrical is not the best thing in the world. Anyway, I have used the turn signals at lights (unlike most sothern california drivers!), and I have noticed that the rithmic tick tick sound from the flasher relay changes tempo. It may start out slow, and go faster, or start slow, speed up fast, and slow down... anyway, is it my flasher relay going bad, or something else? I know it's only a $10 part, but geting to it in a 240 is not easy! The lights flash with the ticking, btw, and go faster or slower with it.

Do the symptoms occur only when turning one direction? If so, check and see if all the external lights on that side are actually blinking. Quite a few european cars are wired so a dead bulb will cause the blinker to speed up, thus warning you of a problem.
(My old VW has/had an intermittently gimpy socket on one of the taillights that causes symptoms like what you describe. An open-handed slap, or just driving over a speed bump, makes it go away.
I ended up "fixing" it by wedging a sliver of tinfoil under the bulb.) ;^b

I agree with Eudi, I'd check the bulbs. Some American cars do that too.
I'll check, but IIRC, they do flash correctly, and both directions create the change in tempo. My volvo has a bulb failure light, but it might not be working...
