New Items in Store

Hey littlejohn.

Yeah, just a few things. Wink It's all the 'little' stuff that I've been meaning to add for the past few weeks. I've been a little busy and just haven't had the time. Orders keep coming in and I get around 10 emails a day worth of questions. I never would have thought that I would be so busy with a 25 year old computer business.

PS - New things going up today too. Also check out the new pics of the II/+/e Power Supply. I also could use a source for IIgs Power Supplies. Anyone?

Apple II Mouse

Hello FunnymanSE30.

I wasn't aware that the Apple II needed it's own mouse and the one for the IIe wouldn't work. If that's so it's a shame because most of us Apple IIe guys have Mice coming out our ears.

Not many programs actually used the mouse, and I can imagine even less for the Apple II.

If there is an Apple II mouse card that is clonable, then sometime in the future we will do it. The hard part will be the mouse though. Probably end up adapting something modern to work.

I know the Apple IIe Mouse Card is quite a 'fancy' card. It has a micro-controller on it which helps take some of the stress off of the CPU. That and the fact that everyone seems to have 100 of them stoped me from actually starting with it as one of the first projects.

Hope that helps. If anyone has more info in the Apple II mouse, please post it or email me. I'm not as familiar with the Apple II/+ as the IIe. Thanks.

no clone mouse card

Hello FunnymanSE30,

Henry does not need to waste his time cloning a mouse card. We are all waiting for bigger projects that he is working on. Smile

There are very few programs for the Apple II's that use a mouse. But if you just have to have one then check out the on line auctions, (I bought one still sealed in the original box for $10), but if you can't find one online PM me and I will sell you one.

I have one in each of my Apple IIe's, but I can think of about five cards I had rather have in that slot.

Apple II Mouse

I didn't think there was an Apple II specific mouse card, but I still learn new things (and then forget them) all the time.

Doubt the Mouse Card would ever be cloned due to it's being widely available. I have some 30 Mouse Cards. If you'd or anyone would like some, just email me. Shipping is $7 each or bulk pricing if you want more then one. I might even have a few Mice available too. eBay is a good source for new Mice though.

Hope that helps answer your original question.

PS - Project update: 2 Meg Plus Expander for the RAMWorks III will be available soon.

The M0100 mouse is a Mac mous

The M0100 mouse is a Mac mouse for 128/512/Plus. The Apple 2 mouse is the A2M4015. They should be interchangeable, but the cases and look and plug styles of the mice are different.

Re: >maybe something will become

make a small assembly language program to cycle through
all combinations of output on the parallel cards. Hook
the parallel cards to the IC you are looking at.

Its not quite so simple. I thought something like this would work a while ago too.

You couldn't apply all the possible combinations of input and output to a computer processor blindly and expect to rebuild the processor.

The best way is to monitor the chip and its I/O to learn how it works. People have done this for the Amiga sound chip for example.

I still want to build a relay based web server, or at least ping server...

Todays Special is ZIF sockets! Wink

Glad to hear you like the Power Supply! Each one is hand crafted with love (aka - the hammer) and will last for years.

Second Sight

If VGA were to be built into an ultimate GS, would a brand new VGA controller need to be designed or could the Second Sight board be mimicked? I had one of these, sold it on ebay about four years ago.
Wish I would have waited. I got $310 for mine and one just went for $621 on ebay.

pal chips

Hi folks,
I'm trying to read 2 pal chips, which are obsolete now. Anyone any idea on the easiest way to go about reading them or have any idea which devices for reading them. They have security fuses in them. The pal chips that I am using are PALCE16V8 H-25PC/4 and PALCE22V10 H-25.

Reading PLD ICs

Hello geomeo.

Most newer Programmers won't read those older PLD devices. I would recommend an Advin Programmer. You can find some older units on eBay from time to time for $100 to $350-ish. A new one goes for about $1000 though.

The PLACE chips can also be 'protected' and if they are then you won't be able to read them by using a 'normal' Programmer. There are a few Programmers out there that can read even these secured devices. I just happen to own one which helps me in my line of work. $600-ish if you're interested.

Do you know if these PLDs are protected? That's where I'd start. If they are, then step 2 is to try and crack them (break the security). If you don't have a Programmer or don't plan on spending the kind of money needed to work with those older devices then I can offer to try and read them for you. The nice thing about PLACE devices is they can be directly replaced by Lattice GAL devices, which are supported by any newer Programmer.

Hope that helps.

Advin Pilot U-32

FYI - If you want a pretty good deal on an Advin Programmer, there's one on eBay right now. Here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320100321356

It's a Advin Pilot U-32, which is quite a nice unit. I have the MVP, but the only real difference besides the size is the type of MPUs is can program. Since most of us will probably not be dabbling in the newest IC's out there then this is really a good unit since you can use it to also read the older PLDs.

Bid away! Wink

The Projects

Hey Henry,

I've been reading all of the posts since I wrote last. You know what you could build a clone of? A 3.5 inch Liron Disk Controller card.
they're getting harder to come by and if you build them, folks will buy. I know I will. lol I have recently started working on a 256K IIGS rebuild and have had to scavenge a Liron from a IIe Platinum so
I can finish it. The Control Panel in System 6 is a little funky when it comes to drives.I recently found someone who has the original AOL 1.0 disks and manuals and I'm in the process of procuring it. Just how much $ do you need for investment purposes?

Steven

The Projects and Testing

Hello gsmcten and plop1234.

Sorry about not responding right away gsmcten. For some reason Outlook dumped the New Message notice in my Junk folder. Grrrr.

Anyway, concerning the Liron Disk Controller - How about the 'end all, be all' Apple 3.5 Drive Controller? That would let everyone use whatever Drives they wanted to. Well you're in luck because thanks to an investor (Anthony J. Martino) 6 v1.0 protos have been produced and are in the mail. As soon as I get them I'll build and start testing. Since they are 1:1 clones I don't see any issues with them. Then it's off to eBay to try and recoup some of the funds to start v1.1. Hopefully some of you will bid on them. Wink

Now for plop1234...

If something comes out specifically for the IIgs I'd probably have to ask if you have had experience working with it. Such as the EDD + project. I've had no experience using the EDD card before so I have to rely on others to do most of the testing for me. In the end I'll know most everything about it. But right now I don't have enough experience to do most of the required testing. I was able to add some nice LEDs to the design though. Wink Thanks for the offer! Feel free to check out News section too. I post updates to the different projects there. If there's something you're interested in helping with feel free to ask. I can use all the help I can get!

Gerat Work

I looked at your website and catalog. Keep up the good work! This is really a cool project! I'm 14 years old, and a few years ago my uncle introduced me to the Apple II and the world of vintage computing. I love it! Just recently I bought an apple //c on eBay. Now I see all this, and wonder if I should have got an apple //e. Will any of this ever pertain to the //c? Could you design a Compact Flash system for the //c?

Great Work

Hello marktbaldridge.

Thanks for the kind words. A IIe would be a good machine too. Much more expandable. The IIc is a nice system too.

As far as a 'Compact Flash system for the //c' there are some people working on just such a solution. Hopefully they will come out with something soon.

SCSI Card - In the Works

I see from your web site that you have some options/accessories for SCSI cards for the IIe and IIgs. Do you have an actual SCSI card available for purchase or is there one in the pipe?

Please advise,

SCSI Card

Hello Don.

Sorry to say no SCSI card for sale at this point. There are some plans for one however. Nothing real soon though.
