Any thoughts on the new theme? I think its a big improvement is usability over the previous, especially in the forums. Feel free to offer you opinion or point out any shortcomings.
You'll also notice that I've placed Google text ads. Google ads are supposed to be "targeted" so I was curious to see what sort of ads would get associated with Applefritter. Most of the ads are pretty generic Macintosh, but I like the ones for Mac repair services on the hacks page. I was also impressed that it gave a link for BeOS Pro for sale on the recent BeOS article.
Some of them are just funny. Take a look at the ads associated with this page, for example.
haha - and [node:4 25] gets us an ad for the BSA!
Well, it is better looking overall. I don't like the avatars on the right side, it just seems a little strange, all other boards have them on the left. It is also difficult to distinguish between two posts now. Sometimes there is a red line dividing them, most of the time there is not. Overall i think the site looks a litter brighter and better.
It looks, dare I say, Google-like.
The red line indicates a post you haven't read.
... however once you've read the posts and the line disappears it makes it a bit difficult to distinguish between posts, how about putting a green separator in between them all? I'm thinking 1px dotted #66CC00. The posted by text in the replies is also illegible on my studio display. Couple other things too whilst I remember...
* The avatars gain a thick blue underline on, I'm guessing, a:hover which looks a bit weird
* The legal stuff at the bottom of each page could do with loosing the bold
* Still needs something to distinguish the page header from the content, I knocked up a few concepts a while back and the header section on this JPEG shows the type of thing I think the site needs to break up the page.
not bad ... ill need to re-add the signatures again ... but apart from that it looks good
oh ... and the bbcode bar dosent work again ...

Here's a mockup (lousy quality JPEG) with the existing color scheme.
yeah that looks good B.S.

Agreed, looks good. Make it happen Tom!
Blackstealth: great design! I'm currently working on the stylesheet to make that. Have a look at http://tuxthepenguin.net:9362/~andrew/af/ It still needs a lot of work, but it is doable.
Andrew
That looks very nice, both of you!
Excellent - That's exactly what I envisaged . I think it just needs a slightly smaller AF logo in the top left corner.
Ok, the logo has been resized to what it is on here and I brightened up the colors. I also put in the background so I don't have to worry about IE/Win.
looks good!
one thing the side blocks should have a border down the sides as well as on the top/bottom IMHO ...
TOM
looks really good ... i need to make some changes to the BBcode bar and add the sigs back in ... i will also remove the background rollover for images ... but the rest looks good!!!
TOM
ok ... most of that is done ... ive also added a thin grey border instead of the red one if a post is read ... should look abit better ...

Wow, I don't have any diamond bits!
My favorite so far is the $60,000 wave soldering stations be advertised on this page - because everybody soldering an extra slot into their old Mac needs one of those. (Actually, if I had $60,000 to spare, one of those would definitely be on my shopping list.)
The background screws up the logo. The logo appears to have a baby blue background, not the silver gradient like the rest of the top bar.
I already fixed that, just waiting for Tom to change the image to my new one. Or, Doc, if you could replace the image, it's at http://tuxthepenguin.net:9362/~andrew/af/aflogo1.png.
Unlike the theme that I worked on back in January, the current one doesn't have the hack to make translucent PNGs work in IE. It really isn't necessary as long as whoever modifies the logo remembers to put the background in.
