Rather stupid question

Ok. I have googled to no avail. I was wondering, what do I need to do to host my own web site from home? I already built the site and can server it to the computers on my lan through personal web sharing. What additional steps are required to share this on the web? I use verizon DSL if that matters. Thank you for your time.

Check your router's settings...

and make sure that it allows incoming HTTP connections.

Could be the modem...

It could be the modems settings as well. My router plays much better with homebrew servers than my DSL modem does.

Ok. I got it to work. it turn

Ok. I got it to work. it turns out that verizon blocks port 80. Once I knew that I was able to work around it. Here is my next question. I have allowed FTp access. How can I make it so the files on the ftp are readable/writable from a remote compute? As they are they are read only.
