1. If you hope to be a grwon-up type news site, don't use a badly inflated graphic showing only part of a 68K Mac "Sad Mac" screen. Seriously, this is the 21st century, and graphics software is a dime-a-dozen.
2. Perhaps a new take on the same rumours passed around by Apple-denegrators for 20 years is nice for some, but not for me. If I wanted stale conspiracy theories, I'd listen to Art Bell.
3. Every reason listed in the article as to why there will be no more Macs could also be used to show how there will be ONLY Macs in 2010.
4. Running out of cat names means no more OS? Oh... OK... that makes purrfect sense.
4. When writing an article about why there won't be Macs, don't ever - EVER - say that it will be because a Microsoft OS will be more secure. Ever.
5. When writing an article about why there won't be Macs, don't ever - EVER - say that it's because they are too expensive. An Intel iMac is comparable in price to a Sony or Dell with similar speed, RAM, and additional software. An Intel Mini is will included all the same software, but will be cheaper than the previously mentioned Sony or Dell.
OK... I'm done... anyone else have comments?
hey back in the mid 90s people said there would be no macs in 2000, but is that true? No. history repeats itself
The "Mac market share" quoted in the article is based soley on current sales, and does not reflect the true user base.
Took me a while to find it, but LEM has a good article on this.
I have to agree with the first comment after the article, though: it's a little difficult to tell if this is in fact a serious article, or a poorly-executed mockery of the Dvorak set.
I thought you guys would get a good laugh and/or irritation out of it. I get these headlines in my Dashboard Widget. It's unbelievable sometimes.
People have been predicting the demise of Apple for nearly 30 years.
Fact: Apple is sitting on a pile of billions of dollars in cash, and has no corporate debt.
Apple is not going away anytime soon. I expect to see GM fold first.
For a quick and incomplete (IMO) list of all the times Apple has been declared dead, see http://www.macobserver.com/appledeathknell/index.shtml
"Apple is sitting on a pile of billions"
We've probably been through this enough on other threads (check the threads in the Intel Macs forum), but the question may be, Apple will certainly survive, but will Macintosh survive? Perhaps Steve is weary of playing the personal computer game, or sees not enough profit in it in the future? There may be bigger and better plans? Perhaps he's really "thinking different?"
Out of cat names, well that makes sense.
The iPod, a cel phone, the PSP5, the CubeBoy, or the iBox could be the new Mac of 2010. Or may be computers will be even more exotic in 2010. I hope so.
It Won’t Be a Bad Thing.
... the iCelCubeBox Portable?
Mac will only die when there are no more designers, artists, engineers, and other people who generally like a good computer and hate microshaft left to support them btw the next awesome Mac edition the G5 power razor
it will be plundered when good ol' steve either retires or dies. Not too many people think different in the way steve does...
EDIT: Let's pray for the best *Crosses fingers*
