New Intel Mac Mini and iPod Hi-Fi...neat stuff but nothing to get excited about. I fully expected the Mac Mini, that was no surprise.

Great: The new mini's got audio line in as well as both USB 2 and Firewire.
Not so good: it's now $100 more for the single-core version. $799 USD for the core duo.
where's the touch-screen ipod we have heard about?
all-in-all, i think apple could have done better than that. Also, they raised the price of the mini and THEY DIDN'T GIVE IT IT'S ON VRAM!!!
That sucks, shared VRAM slows ANY computer down. This certainly doesn't make me want to rush out and get one...
I ordered one of the single core minis. I'm just jealous it doesn't have an "ingenious black ribbon" like those new $100 iPod pouches.
By what I have heard, Touch screen Ipods may be out friday. On top of it all, the mac mini uses the intel video processor not even an ATI or Nvidia chipset. Not saying this is bad but it could be better with an ATI or Nvidia.
huh? Why would they release a product less then a week after this press event without any kind of announcement? That doesn't much sense to me.
By far the least exciting Apple event in recent memory. The Minis are $100 too expensive, the leather case is a joke, the iPod Hi-Fi... well, I'm just going to wish it doesn't exist.
I am not sure about that its only what I heard. But we'll see come friday, right?
what bugs me, is that they INSTANTLY discontinued the G4 mini, where with the iMac G5, they have (so far) only phased out the 17" model (of which my local CompUSA still has 1 of, but a display model. And the 15" powerbook was phased out 2-3 weeks ago.
also, that mini has NO modem, something that 40% of the USA will miss, and will have to spend the extra $49 for that rubbish of a USB version. luckily there are better, cheaper alternitives.
didnt the latest incarnation of the G5 iMac have no modem as well? or was that removed on the intel iMac? all I know is they are phasing that out.

I agree about the mini being $100 too expensive. Maybe it costs them more, but it's kind of irrelevant; the point of the mini is to meet a certain price point that the market likes.
I am severely disappointed in the iPod HiFi. It's nearly covered by 3rd parties products for MUCH less. Digital in and battery power don't cost that much to build in. It's a very expensive "why?" product. I don't see it selling to anyone but super-mega fanboys, and those with more money than sense. It'll probably be discontinued in 6 months after Griffin, BOSE or somebody sells something just like it for $150.
I agree! I went searching for the G4 Mini right after the event was finished. Couldn't find it anywhere. It was a lot of hoopla for nothing.
Why do you say the USB modem is rubbish! I am very interested in a review of it if anyone owns one.

Who the heck thought the dock location on the iPod HiFi is a good place?!? Sticking up out the top like that? T'would have been trés simple to locate it flush on the front of the box, instead of all vulnerable up top.
Otherwise, it's not a bad looking bit o' kit, though the US$350 pricetag seems a tad high.
