I've been trying to get my mac plus to boot from my zip drive. i put a clean driver in the system folder on the drive but all i get is the question mark in the floppy. I checked termination my zip drive has a termination on of switch. when i turn the mac on the zip is accessed for a fraction of a second and then the light blinks once a second after that. Is my scsi chip dead?
if this helps any i also tried booting with my ultradrive 80 that's internally terminated, and still no dice.
Are you 100% sure that you Zip cartridge has not been polluted with a driver later than Iomega 4.2? It is easy to test:
Take another Mac and connect your Zip drive. Copy off the System Folder etc to a safe location.
Rip all of the Iomega extensions from the System Folder and reboot.
Insert the Zip cartridge and reformat it (low level) using a hard disk utility that also formats removable disks. Copy the Mac Plus stuff back, and bless the System Folder. (In theory, the Iomega driver on the cartridge will be replaced by a generic driver for removable media, so it will work on the Plus.)
Reconnect to Plus and try again.
If this fails, rinse and repeat using a different formatter. If you can locate a copy of the real Iomega formatter that installs driver version 4.2, please let me know.

I copied it on to my zip drive with my lombard running Panther the drive was auto recognized. When i tried it on the plus it didnt give me a sad mac or anything it just wouldnt boot.
