Powermac 9500 How many internal drives?

The PS on the 9500 is rated at 225W (compared with 150W for a 7200 and 390W for the 9600. The Cheeta 37 GB version has a peak power consumption/heat output of about 40W so that is 80W and the G3 acually draws less than the original 604E. So that 4 of them could be to much for the PS does not surprise me. It could also have been to much heat...

Take care to have good ventilation around the harddisks and perhaps a PCI slot fan that will cool the whole case. The ZIP drive will not contribute to any real heat or power consumption. With the floppy pretty useless anyhow why not put a ZIP there

390W for the 9600

Note that the 2 proc 9600 had a higher rated ps for the power-sucking 604s that are in it. Anyway, why not modify a ATX ps for your 9500? 500w would power alot of chetas (and fans!)... I think that adding some well placed fans could help with the heat alot (those cheatas add ALOT of heat!).

Is there an article for modding a ATX psu to be used in a 9500 (think 9500 to ATX case hack, that would be somewhat cool).

EDIT: DO'H! That was for a 9600, but that was the only one on xlr8yourmac at the moment.

it wouldnt be too hard to do, just get a multimeter and make some molexes to interface the sets of connectors (9500 has 2 that hook into the logic board). The only thing that would really be an issue is how to get the power supply of the 9500 turned on (like you can do with the ATX) to get voltages. Or just find a diagram with pinouts..
