Is the iPod and iTunes Forum worth keeping?

I must say I kind of regret that AF started an iPod/iTunes forum. No disrespect to Tom or the other mods - it's a good idea in principle. But my goodness, it's become by far the most annoying forum! It appears most of the posts are from folks who've googled "ipod forum" or something like that (why they don't go right to apple.com/support is, as others here have said, a mystery), and have found AF. They're frantic, panicked, averse to trying to solve their own problems (or even reading things in large red letters like "iPod Linux is NOT supported on the nano"), rude, and evidently totally uninterested in contributing to AF in any way.

It makes me wonder if the AF wouldn't be better off without this particular forum.

I recognize that the decision of which forums to have is up to Tom and the other mods. Just felt that this question should at least be raised.

Matt

HELP HELP HELP HELP

Ditto for anything that has 'HELP' more than once in the title. If these people would at least read the AUP, they would know that that is not allowed nor is it helpful to getting someone to look at their problem.

If we are going to support this, folks must be presented with a list of common FAQ's and a google search (of previous AF threads) prior to be allowed to start a new one.

Better yet, change the link to the forum to the Apple Support forums to automagically re-route them over there. Wink

Part of the problem

I think that part of the problem is that what has been created here is a very informative and innovative site. I've tried to use Google as a research tool a number of times only to be routed right back to applefritter.com one the first results page.

If you start deprecating the quality of the site, we won't have to worry about this anymore...

My guess is the search string is "i need help with my ipod". We're #3. Above Apple.

Yes, we're working on a fix.
