Hello. I have been looking around at computers lately. I have come across the Emac and like it. I was wondering if any one had input on if it is a good computer or not. Thanks for any input you have.

eMacs are pretty solid little units. Kinda like a CRT iMac, but with a bigger screen and a G4 processor. Nice all-in-one design, great if you've got kids.
Downsides: no expansion slots (but does have USB, FireWire, Ethernet and 56K modem); not easy to get inside one without a service manual; weighs something like 60 pounds. Definitely not a portable unit.

If I plugged in my usb linksys wireless antenna it should recognize it as an airport card right??? I assume so because a friend plugged in a linksys pcmica card into a powerbook he went enabled airport under a menu and it worked.

As a repair technician, I have a rather low opinion of the eMac. The speakers always seem to cause distortion in the built in display, the display itself has had a myriad of issues (consistent failure on early models), some occurring on a regular basis even on newer units. For the extra cost, buy an iMac G4 or a mac mini. You'll be glad you spent the extra money. To me, the eMac feels like a "Oh darn, we need something cheapo on the market" kind of product. All of the bad aspects of the slot load iMacs with none of the redeeming qualities. (again, from a service standpoint. Also to note, the PowerBook G4 12" is a great machine from a user's standpoint, but horrible from the service technician's. iBook (dual USB) form factor is another one of my least favorite machine's from a service technician's point of view.

Jeez, everybody knows REAL h4x0rz use |'s and type into a direct stream input then cat and grep sections together. Who needs a text editor?!

Edit: So I'm not completely offtopic, the iMac much better than the eMac and probably worth the wait if you have to save a little more for it. The eMac is a nice boat anchor that can take a good pounding. Oddly enough, most of the broken eMacs I've looked at are a result of technicians (usually generic PC techs who 'support' a Mac lab at a school) messing with them.
Other than the 1st gen models, they're pretty solid machines. They're also startlingly overclockable (for an apple). If you don't mind mangling the insides a bit, they've got two ATA interfaces (AKA could support 4 ATA devices), but only have two ATA devices. I've got a friend who has four hard disks residing INSIDE his eMac (although it has no optical drive). He's also attempting to discover a way to ditch the big, heavy, space hogging CRT and drop in an LCD in it's place, but I don't think he's going to be successful there.
I think its a shame they don't sell them anymore. My mom has one and a friend of mine has one. Better than the Mac Mini i got to replace my busted Powermac IMO.
We have 2 eMac 1gHZ and have no problems at all for 13 months. Be aware of video issues that are due to faulty video cables, cost $24 I believe for a new cable. Apple support has the details. We have had no issues at all. Solid machine for everyday. They have fast read/write speeds. We run 10.4.4 and 10.3.9 on them. Panther on one since my PalmIIIxe will not sync with Tiger and it's just a really good gadget. Apple is no longer making/selling eMacs, but new machines are on the market. You want to buy a new one. It is fairly easy to upgrade the memory and add the airport card if it is not in the unit. Otherwise, I'd buy a G5 iMac for everyday. The eMac does have a rather noisy fan. The iMac G5 is nearly silent.
