Hi i have a beige g3 that seems to have a problem. When i try to start form a x.2 CD it loads for a while then says "you need to restart your macintosh". If i try to start from an os 9 cd it says "HFS partition error" over and over again on a white screen. Any Help would be apreciated.
Kris
i also have not been able to find the pram battery or the reset switch on the board. could anyone help me with that? thanks kris
Sounds like a case of bad RAM. Try removing one stick at a time to narrow it down. Holding down Command>Option>P>R to reset PRAM.
You might check your jumper settings on your cd drive and on your hard drive. They have to be set to master to work.
hi thanks for the help so far. I checked the jumpers on the HD and CD and they are both on master. I tried to get it to reset the PRAM and taking one stick of memory out at a time but it still didnt work. I took the battery out and unplugged the Power supply from the board over night to reset it but still nothing. Any more ideas or should i send this thing to the parts bin? thanks kris
have you tryed holding the cuda button for 30 seconds (its the little gray button beside the last pci slot) and do not double click it cause it can kill the battery. have you replaced the pram battery. Is the cd-rom drive orignal
this site has pram battery's for $6.88 including shipping if you havent replaced the pram battery
pram battery replacement
thanks everyone it works now! I bought this mac at a used computer for 20 dollars and was quite excited to find it for that price. It had 2 sticks of ram 1 was 32 mb and the other was 128. I took the 32 mb out and and pulled the battery and the power supply cable overnight and it worked. I put the 32 back in and it had the same problem again so i took it out and put the 128 back in and added 2 64s. It is 266 mhz with 4 mb video ram and the video in and out. I also added a 40 gig hd and the machine is running great. Thank you for all your help!
