I was offered one of these by a friend for a really cheap price, $90. Specs are g3 333mhz, 256mb of ram, 30 gig hd. What can these machines do. how good is OS X performance. would it be better than an imac 266 running osx with 256mb of ram. are there any common problems i should watch out with a Lombard. I think this would be a nice upgrade from my current 'book, a pb 5300cs.

I had a lombard 6 years ago, and I loved it. But dont you want to get a new mac? I mean, payments on a new laptop are ridiculously inexpensive compared to prices even just 2 or 3 years ago. A brand new ibook is $24 a month, and even though students and others dont have a lot of cash doesnt seem astronomical, but maybe it is, I dont know. I just got sick of the hoops I had to go through to make OS X work on a machine made for OS 8.6 and moved on.
best of luck

It sounds like the price is what you can afford, otherwise you wouldn't be asking about it here. dvsjr's point about new hardware being cheap(ish) is good, but not everyone can afford even $24/mo.
A 333MHz PB runs Panther or Tiger very nicely, though 512MB RAM would be better than the 256 you mention. Heck, chances are good you could even OC the sucker, I've got a couple of 333s boosted to 400 that work just dandy.

The lombard is a wonderfull machine. In fact, im typing this reply on mine right now. It'll run OS X fairly well, tho not as fast as a new G5 will Mine is a little beat up (case scuffs, and a crack in the bottom casing (which i plan to replace)) but it still runs like a champ. I have OS 9 OS x and Ubuntu installed on mine, btw, and they all run very well. If you take care of it, it will serve you well for years to come, it's a great machine for the road warrior too, as you can have a dual battery set up! I have 2 new batteries, and with both installed i get about 10 hours with moderate useage.
