Does anyone knoe how I can get my Colour Classic case back to it's original colour as it is a bit yellowed with sunlight/cigarettes/age? I have tried several plastic polishing products but these are abrasive and get rid of the textured finish on the case, making it shiney which I don't want. I just saw a CC on ebay that had been cleaned to original colour so I contacted the seller who told me his method was a secret.....?!! Any ideas would be great as knowing it can be done but not knowing how to is driving me nuts!

In all abstruse subjects that are not likely to be addressed by Apple, let Google be your friend. In particular, look for the modders who have coloured their Macs red, black, silver, electric blue and so on. Most of their reports start with case cleaning/bleaching.
Here is a long-standing recipe for starting the process. As in all of the methods, success depends on your determination and thoroughness. Some understanding of solvents is useful. Ordinary ethyl alcohol and other simple alcohols (eg, iso-propyl alcohol) will not remove (skin) oils, and greases, efficiently. It takes hydrocarbons like hexane to do that, and they may not be available to you. Some of those solvents are also toxic. You also need to be careful that grease solvents do not attack the ABS plastic.
Some discolourations may not be remediable, because they have modified the plastic. Other discolourations may have penetrated the plastic, and are not amenable to surface treatments. If you value the Mac you are working on, try your treatment on a sacrificial piece of (Mac) plastic before you work on the Mac itself.

. . . . citrus bicycle chain cleaner - available in the UK from Halfords. Doesn't get rid of deep-seated yellowing, but does clean up really bad surface stuff. Makes them smell nice, too! Stuart.
I use similar stuff called Goo Gone, it too is citrus based. It works pretty well on most any material, I haven't found anything yet that it can damage.

Thanks everyone! Your forum especially macg4. I will give Ajax a go though as someone said (twice), it is a result of a chemical change within the plastic that creates the yellowed look and short of reversing this process there may not be too much I can do.....though painting the cases might be worth looking into - if anyone does come up with something though please do let me know!

Thanks Stuart - I will get myself to Halfords. I have visited your site many times and am facinated by the possibilities for my CC. I am a PC user of many years but recently saw a CC and I guess like so many others fell for it. I know little about them but have already bought a 575 sytem board on ebay and cannot wait to start upgrading - to 640x480 too!

Just take it slowly and all will be well! The biggest trap is to find yourself with the hardware mods done, but without a bootable OS. Been there - got the T-shirt!
