I'm in the middle of building a small cluster out of PowerMac 7x00's.
I know there were a few Dos/PC compatibility cards (Apple, Radius, OrangeMicro).
My question is, can you have more than one in a system at a time (2 Apple branded, or 1 Apple and 1 Radius, etc) in any combination?
I know they are not well supported but it's just for a fun project.
I'd like to have two per machine if it can work.
Software wise mite be ok, but don't those cards suck up a ton of juce from the PCI bus? That's the only thing that I can think of off had that would stop ya.
Why would u want to?
Well, namely, to see if it can be done....a.k.a. "Geek Factor".
Aside from that, I'm thinking about turning 6 odd PowerMacs I have into a cluster. I have Dual Processor cards for most of them. Thought it might be neat to have a dual cluster so to speak. Slap Dos cards in all of them and cluster windows, so you can have a mac cluster and a win cluster all in one little package.
And the more processors, the better.
I found out it is possible to have 1 Apple Card and 1 OrangePC card in the smame system but not multiples of the same brand.
So, theoretically you could have a quad 604e PowerMac with two Pentium Processors for a total of 6 processors in one box.
Now if only the PC cards could run linux, and were supported under PPC linux variants..... *sigh*
Hi,
Do you have the Orange drivers, or a link to a download site?
