On a Wallstreet Powerbook, is there any difference between the 2 types of clutch cover besides the volume or contrast icon?

Can you be more specific?
There are 2 models of clutch cover listed in the service manual for the Wallstreet. The one for active matrix screens has a volume control icon, and the one for passive matrix screens has a contrast icon. I was wondering if this was the only difference between the 2 types, or if the computer could determine which type was installed.
