G5 dual 1.8ghz dvd eject problem

my buddy's system every 1 out of 5 reboots wont see the drive and it wont open either, so he has to reboot it if that happens, has anyone else ran into this problem yet? we keep his machine up to date as much as possible and its done this since he got it last summer. any help would be great.. oh yea he's running panther 10.3.9 and we havnt done any hacks to the system or anything of that nature.

don't know about that.

don't know about that being a problem with G5's. i work as an apple technician, and had a slightly differnt problem only once with a G5. after putting a cd / dvd in, and waiting for an hour or two without accessing the drive, the system stuck and the drive disappeared. switched the drive - works perfect now.

i guess your problem is also the drive, try to get a new one (guarantee?).

cheers.
