I've added a B & W to my growing museum but it is the only Mac I have with a Zip Drive. I know another CD won't fit in the narrower lower bay, but is there anything else besides this useless Zip drive I can coax in there? another harddrive perhaps? Even a floppy drive would be more useful, as I can share files with my more antique antiques.

take a USB Floppy drive apart and create a bezel. mount the floppy with the new bezel and put it in that slot. route the cable out of one of the PCI slot areas. Connect it up to the external native USB or PCI card.
Another option is to hack a card reader and hook it to the USB bus. Like the ones used in PC's See URL below on what I am talking about:

I bet a magneto-optical 3.5" drive would fit in that slot.
Well, you can put in a superdisk drive...
I prefer a superdisk above an zip drive...
I have one superdisk drive (ATA/IDE connector) with front for G3 B&W laying around, but I dont have a G3 B&W to put it in...maybe someday, otherwise I'm going to put it on eBay.
Photo's, passwd. is 'indy'
using a PCI SCSI card, you could put a 2GB jaz drive in it. Makes for quick backup or even a bootable removable disk drive
I've used that space for hard drives on G4's. The drives stay cooler there than if you stack them at the bottom of the case.
I also like the idea of hacking together a USB/Firewire/cardreader idea. Front-accessible ports are something that should have been a feature of Macs from the beginning.
With a bit of hacking I'm sure you could probably get a CD drive in there! You'd probably need to fabricate a new bracket for both drives, but IIRC there isn't too much in the way in those cases.

Here's an example of a B&W with dual opticals. Not exactly pretty, but the dual opticals part works well enough.

maybe you could use an ide card reader if there any any Mac drivers for such

ipod bay?
I like this one best so far. That looks swank docked, like an AK-47 locked and loaded.
A Dremel tool! I have thought about this a bit. If one cuts around the bottom of the top drive, to remove the entire bottom portion - then one can bolt an extension to it with properly spaced holes for mounting another CD drive.
I am making a small MIDI interface which can fit in the smaller bay on my B&W. I've got a Stealth G3 serial adaptor where the modem was. The board is mostly done, but I need to make a cable to give it +5v, and an adaptor for between the Stealth and its serial I/O. It is taking forever to finish because I have way, way too many unfinished projects.
seriously, though...
How about a mac mini for a little 2-node cluster action?
ok... really, seriously, though...
I've been missing the leds that computers used to have to show drive activity. Most HD still have the pins for the led... so how about leds for each HD?
If the card is formatted as a hard drive you won't need any drivers, at least for CF cards. A lot of cameras use standard PC drive formats.
