This moring when connecting my usb drive to my computer, the drive seemed to have mounted as a not only a drive but also as a folder.
When dragging the folder or the drive to the trash the icon changed to the eject icon. (See attached).
This seemed to have begun happening after i installed the latest security update via Software update.
Any suggestions
How long since the computer in question has been rebooted? The icon cache (a Windows term - I don't know the equivalent for the Mac) may have become corrupted, resulting in the folder icon being used for the drive. That wouldn't explain the duplication, however.
I'd reboot the machine and see if it fixes the problem.

If you go to "Get info" in the file menu, do it reconize it as a drive or a folder?
i haven't rebooted the computer for such a long time that i can't remember. Anyway, your suggestion seemed to have worked and the drive mounts OK now.
