Read the forum called "Landon" and tell me why it is locked. Other than the reason Owad gave.

Why was it locked? Because only the immature would bring up the "don't drop the soap" jokes. Grow up a little.
In the immortal words of Dr. Bob, my banning finger is getting itchy.
I'm no mod, and im not even a regular, but I am really, really hoping youre not serious.
Following the threads about the situation myself, it was indicated several times that things should be kept on a totally factual and informational basis only, and that was pretty much immediately respected. Why? Because the stuff that thread is crammed with is slanderous/libelesque (dont know which, a lawyer would I bet though) in nature. And guess who, other than the much more anonymous poster, would possibly share in taking the heat over such a thing?
That's one good reason, and I'm sure there are countless many more of them. And by the way, the way your topic reads, you're calling the guy who's covering his behind an idiot, which I'm sure isnt taken lightly around here. If you didnt mean it that way I'd amend that if at all possible.

You're kidding....right?
For that matter, a simple site search would have yielded the information you were looking for it. It amazes me how few people take the time to research something for themselves. Type in "Landon" in the search field, and you will get the whole story. Frankly, as far as I'm concerned, the question really didn't need to be asked....again.
Sorry guys...
I have no sympathy or respect for scammers, and I have been the one to do the research that helps bring them to justice before. I didn't know it was such a horribly sore topic here.
On a side note, some people need to learn that being mature and having a twisted sense of humor are not exclusive to one another. I can see why it was locked (beyond the reason that was given for locking) so I won't argue that.
I suppose I'll quit pretending this is actually some kind of online "community" and go back to using it only as a conduit for getting and sharing on-topic technical information about Apple stuff.
S'okay, ax0n - don't take it too hard.
We do have a community here, but re-hashing the Steve Landon threads is kinda redundant - it's all been said already. Twice, probably.
Combine that with timmyisalmostbanned's either 1) lack of searching the forum for a topic that was active very recently, or 2) trolling to dig the Steve Landon topic up yet again, and I think you can see why it was locked. Been there, done that, made the soap joke already.
I found the threads. I was previously unaware of them. My Wallstreet's about the only Mac I own that's worth using. I'm a UNIX nerd and it's the only one I can run OS X on. 8 and 9 don't cut it for me, and my SE/30 running BSD is locked away right now.
It's been down and out with a dead PRAM batt for about a year, so I just finally came back. I am the server admin for a pretty large car forum, and my ban finger gets quite itchy sometimes as well. We're extremely conservative for a car forum. Not politically. We have tons of tree hugging hippies. However, we don't allow talk of street racing, pr0n, we have a pretty strict swear filter, etc. It's definitely not anything like somethingawful or ClubSI for instance.
I suppose I'm used to how things go over there, where things like Jon and I posted would be warmly welcomed as the forum members pounced on any opportunity to use low-brow humor to poke fun of the scammers.
Like I said though, I usually find my niche here in the Other Tech, 68k and PPC forums. If I could shut off all the other forums from my view, I would probably do it.
He he..sorry Tom. I did not know that you guys were so sensitive about Landon
It was locked specifically and solely due to the crude and childish remarks of yourself and another.
It will not be a community where we slander defenseless convicts or make crass jokes that winkingly condone heinous crimes.
If the thread had remained respectful, it would not have been locked.
i want to apologize. I overstepped by bounds. i never should have said what i did. It will not happen again. Again, sorry everyone.
Now that I look back on it, I hope i will learn and correct my judgement, and conscience.
As if there need be any other reason... Owad is God here... His will be done.
I will consider your penance and get back to you.
Tom, I've chalked this up to a lesson learned, but please check your email when you get a chance.
Personally, I think the very fact that this thread hasn't been locked and the author banned is testament to the easy-going nature of Tom Owad.
AF has been, as long as I can remember it, a place where reasoned discussions could be freely conducted, within means. I know of more than one forum on the internet where a topic would be shut down if it did not co-incide with the views of the site's owner. But, here on AF, all reasonable, mature discussions are allowed to take place, regardless of political slant. That's something we far too often take for granted.
I think we've all forgotten one of the most important rules for engaging in discussion: Attacking a person's ideas is one thing, attacking the person is entirely another. Smashing a person's arguments with well thought-out counter-arguments is not only a good thing, but it should be encouraged. However, once we begin to attack the person behind the ideas, we have over-stepped our bounds. We must learn to seperate the person from the ideas.
Calling someone an idiot because of an action taken on an online forum is totally uncalled for. You don't know the individual circumstances of Tom Owad. Advertisers could threaten to remove support for this site, or this could hurt the case of the Applefritterians who are looking to recoup losses incurred during transactions with Mr. Landon. My point is that individual circumstances are just that - individual - and unless you are that person, you cannot fully understand those circumstances.
Tom is in a position of power. His circumstances take precedence over ours in situations regarding AppleFritter.
Cheers,
The Czar
Tom has the right to close whatever he wants and frankly I am tired of the Steve Landon topic. Not to mention he was right !
It was getting immature.
...... Lets get back to hacks......
