As far as I know, they support any g3 with 128 megs of RAM and built-in firewire. The pismo fits that bill. I haven't heard anything that suggests otherwise.

yeah, and it isn't even like the online Apple Store checks or anything. When I purcahsed my powerbook g4 at a bricks and mortar apple store, I had to present my school ID. That was at least a little assurance that I actually was a student. That said, if you go to the store online, you can just find a school and it will allow you to place your order. I'm not really sure how Apple could easily verify that you're a student or educator online, but still. I wonder how much money apple has lost from people abusing this.

The first time they do...

I remember the first ibook I bought throught he Apple store was also my first purchase with my student discount. They actually confirm through your school that you are enrolled actively. By agreeing to use their Education store, you also agree to allow Apple to verify that you are a student. Now, that was the first time, and I remember that Apple delayed my purchase a few days because of it. Since then I have bought with the discount and it took the same amount of time to process as any other order, so they may only do it initially. Any non-students have any experiences successfully buying through the store for Education? I would be curious to know if I just imagined it all.

the pismo was made after the ibook g3 firewire clamshell model, and after the b/w g3 so i definatly think it will work.

I wonder how hard and fast that FW issue is. It should support the early 350MHz SL Blueberry iMac in every way except that, and I doubt that a FW is really needed to just run X.4. My BB has the solder pads for the FW but nothing there, so it should be identical to a DV slotloader excpet that.

Should work...

...he can just show his ID at the store. He should be able to pre-order at an apple retail store. He can also use it online. You also get a discount as the parent of a dependant student. Go to the store page and click on "Education" on the right hand side toward the top of the page. It will walk you through it.

Hmm...

On the info supplied to every employee in the AppleCentre where I work, Apple states that 256MB RAM is the *minimum*, not 128MB.

Also, the base 350 iMacs are specifically not supported... FireWire is not just a general guide, the installer checks for it and won't upgrade a machine without on-board FW.
