It was the wallstreet(the ones without firewire or USB,and the infamous hinge problem).I thing you can remove the metal part off a wallstreet(I know you can,but its really difficult, and stick it on a Pismo/lombard.
is it possible to remove thjepismo plastic ones and replace it with the wallstreet?
No, the Pismo has no "panel" there, it's all part of the housing. If you want a different finish in that area on a Pismo (or Lombard, same thing) you'll have to apply something over the rubbery stuff (eg: paint or self-adhesive material.)

It is not possible to remove the metal panels without destroying them. I know, because I've done it.

Well, just what do you mean exactly by "destroy"? I've gotten the panels off without buggering them up using hot air from a hair dryer. It softens the adhesive enough to allow the panel to be peeled off. Takes a bit of care and rather more time but it can be done. It helped that I didn't care a whit if the plastics got damaged in the process (though they didn't.)

When I did it with a heatgun, the metal was too distorted from all the torquing that it would never fit back on. Of course I cared a great deal about the plastic, and not at all about the metal (since I had brand new unpainted panels)
