Ok, be prepared to not use your computer for a few days. The best way would be to take it apart and paint the case bit's individually. Thus you wont get any paint in any vital bit of the computer. If your not completly comfortabe about taking your computer apart, i'd recomend using the excellent service guides at www.pbfixit.com. Once everything is apart, hit it with a good, plastics safe paint. Remember, multuple thin coats are better than one thick coat of paint. Remember to do this in a well ventilated area, not too hot, not too cold. Leave the case parts where they wont be disturbed for a few days/a week (depends on the type of paint/ambient conditions). Once everything is dry, and your happy with it, reassemble your computer, use the takeapart guide, but do the steps in reverse of taking it apart.
Some advice for anyone taking apart a powerbook:
1. take good notes, a digital camera is a good idea!
2. have a small note pad handy. For each type/set of scriews, write where the scriew goes, and put the scriew on the peice of paper. If the computer will be apart for a long time, or your afraid that your stuff will get disturbed, tape the scriews to the paper. I do this every time i service a 'book and i have never lost a single scriew.
3. Avoide caffene. I dont know about you, but caffene gives me mild shakes in the hands.
Other than that, good luck, have fun, and be sure to post pics when your done!
thanks mucho for the info!
is there specific type of paint I'm supposed to use?
Look for a paint that is safe for polycarbonate plastics. I would avoid Krylon fusion, tho.
Altho i've never painted a 'book, i have done some case customization for friends of mine. If there is anything else i can help you out on, please let me know.
Pactra works really well on polycarbonate
Also, consider a new signature. Lets keep it G rated here.
Signature changed
You didnt mention what iBook you had. Not all can be painted on the inside. Any of the Opaque models cannot be painted in this way. The last models to have the clear polycarbonate case halves was the 1st edition 700 and 800 G3. The 2nd rev of the 700 and 800 have the solid white case halves. As well as all 900 G3's, and any of the G4's.
thanks
