I have an iBook blueberry (333mhz I think) and the screen is broken on it. Without having to spend an arm and a leg on an old p.o.s. comp, would a KVM switch work with the USB? It doesn't have any ports, except: modem, ethernet, audio/headphone, USB 2.0, and power.
Maybe there is something else that I didn't think of (like an ADB port monitor with an iMate?)... I dunno. I'm so lost! Plz help!
A usb kvm would work fine provided the computer has the required ports, an open usb port and a vga/svga connector. The ibook doesn't have a vga connector? (i didn't know that.) But if the ibook does not have a vga connector then no, a KVM isn't going to help because there is no way to port the video out of the laptop to the video in of the kvm.
i don't know if all ibook g3s don't have one, at least mine doesn't... *sigh* i really hope i can get a suggestion soon... otherwise i'll be paying money for an lcd...
My iBook(tangerine clamshell 300), dosn't have a screen connector, but your's may, some of the later ones (Definatly ones with DVD drives) had video out throught hthe headphone jsck, you'll need an apple cable or make youre own, but they supply composite video out through the second to inner most ring(i think) (from the back of the plug) of a 4-pin jack plug.
I don't know if they work with macs, but I have seen USB to VGA adaptors out there, dunno if the bandwidth of USB would be high enough to support video, the adaptors use USB 2.0 (Clamshells definatly have USB 1.1 - Mine does)
LCD replacement is really the only way to get it functional. What's it worth to you? On eBay LCDs cost ~US$50 - ~$125, a pretty easy swap. As parts, a complete-and-functional-but-broken-screen iBook is worth ~$75 - $125. Nice complete working 300 iBooks sell for ~$150 - $250.
What do want to do with this 'Book? Are you just trying to test it, or retrieve data from the HD, or ??? Give us an idea what you're up to and we'll suggest a course of action.
