same problem but...

The computer on which the password was lost uses OS 9. I do have an OS X disk. Can I just do as you advised above even though the computer has OS 9 installed?

password woes

I have searched and read everything I can find about this--and tried it all with no success...
From what I have read---booting off the install CD and then deleting multi-user files should work---
the problem I am having is--when I boot off the CD--
the ONLY thing I have access to is the CD....
There is no HD anywhere to be found...what am I missing here?

Thanks in advance,
Judy

Wipe 10.3 from my mac

I have no admin passwords or any passwords for this Power book G4. All attempts to boot from factory cd disks fail. I was able to boot into command line, but I don't know how to wipe from there and if I do will I then be able to boot from cd disks. My sister has the same G4 powerbbok and I try to use her cd's to boot from but noway no how. The CD never shows up for the boot sequence. Cd works when system boots up but any attempt to change anything requires a password.

Any help for mapplez out there

Have you tried holding down 'c' while booting? To boot from a cd from the Open Firmware prompt, try 'boot cd'.

Interesting thread. Look at the spread of time frames between the different posts. A conversation in slow motion.
