I'm wondering.. what would happen if you plugged the 800x600 LCD from a clamshell iBook onto a dual-usb iBook's motherboard? I'm thinking it *should* work.. the dual-USB iBooks definately use an LVDS link, and I think the clamshell's do too..
Extrapolating the results of different panels connected by LVDS here.. seeing other people's experiments, a 1280x854 LCD plugged into a pre-DVI powerbook's controller puts 1152x768 pixels of good data on the screen at bootup and noise in the rest, while a 1152x768 LCD on a DVI or later powerbook works perfectly.
A hypothetical question, as I have neither spare, but if anyone has both spare and wants to try, I would be much appreciative 
And no, I'm not planning on replacing a dual-USB's LCD with a clamshell one (while the results of this question may be useful to someone with a dual USB with a broken screen and a clamshell with a dead mobo..), but I am thinking of using a dual-USB iBook logic board to drive an 800x600 or 640x480 LVDS-connected panel.
I'd try it for sure, I've got all the bits, but . . .
The cables' connectors aren't the same, and I'm too flippin' lazy too fab a cable. Well, lazy and ignernt of what-the-hell runs through an LVDS cable anyhow. :?

In theory it should auto detect the device and just work, especially if the display is new enough to support EDID. Getting the connectors to mate up properly could be a problem though as Apple never uses the same connector twice.
