Hell no! That's what the fab is for. Sheesh, the drilling alone with worth the fab costs.
Update: Got all the compnents soldered on. Now to finish the power supply and enclosure. I'm also waitin on the heatsinks to come back from the machinist.
How many of those boards did you have made? Assuming the components are relatively inexpensive, I might be interested in building one of those.

The boards themselves cost about $40 each, plus about $70 in components. By the time you get the power supply in and the case it's about $200. Though if you cut some corners you can get it down closer to $150.
You can save $25 in parts if you delete the inductors and resistors on the output stage. You can't drive speaker cables more than 10 feet long or drive electrostatic speakers if you do this though. Also, I bought premium magnetics throughout and you could probably get away with cheaper parts in the power supply.
I made 3 boards, once I'm sure it works, I'll release the extras for sale. If there is sufficient interest, I'll order more boards. Above 25 and I can get a significant discount.

It's a new type of amp based on a very old technology.
Basically, it's a power op-amp. Op-amps have been around for decades, but traditionally unable to source very much current. They do provide lots of gain and VERY low noise (at the cost of efficiency). This amp can source large amounts of current at very low noise, but it makes lots of heat too.
Oh the modded cell phone belonged to my employer at the time, and I gave it back when I quit.
