What is your dream car, both in production, and a custom that (within reason - no 500000000bhp engines) you would want built. If you can design a car body, please put it here.
In production : Porsche GT (The Best of the Beasts). Great fun to drive (I know someone who has one), looks good, costs...umm...err...outside my budget.
http://www2.uk.porsche.com/english/gbr/carreragt/modelinformation/default.htm
Custom car : watch this space
Within-budget: 1993 GMC Sierra 1500 on diesel, with lift and large wheels
That, and pretty much anything on diesel or propane (insert Hank Hill joke here)
Outside of budget: 2005 Mustang or F150 (I love ford's 2005 designs, they break the circle of ugly cars that has been going since about 2002.)
Custom: 1968 Ford Bronco, with 44s and all the fixins
Chev El Camino SS
Or a Jeep YJ Wrangler, again with all the fixins for off-roading
Let's see... so many possibilities, and so many possible categories. I'll break it down this way; Realistic, What's a Budget?, and Total Fantasy. And what the heck; Realistic Fantasy too!
Realistic: 1995-2000 Chevy Suburban (I've got a bunch of kids to haul around)
What's a budget?: 2004 Ford Expedition, V10, all the goodies!
Total Fantasy: I'd agree with truly... the Porsche GT is the machine I drool after.
Realistic Fantasy: Just for fun... Something I build, based on the Tri-Magnum design http://www.rqriley.com/tri-mag.html but with a tricked out front suspension like the T-Rex http://www.go-t-rex.com/anglais.html (something more than VW Beetle front end!) And while I'm dreaming, let's power it with an electric motor, straight out of the t-Zero http://www.acpropulsion.com/tzero_pages/tzero_home.htm
I need a bigger garage!
In no real order. I would take any of them as a dream car.
In production or in past production:
Ferrari Enzo
2005 Ford GT
2000 Viper
Showroom quality 77' 280Z with some engine upgrades (My current car, but MUCH nicer)
2002 Trans-Am
1969 Boss Mustang
1979 Vette Stingray
Any Lamborghini Diablo
Custom: Coming soon
I really like that T-Mag thingy. Looks like something that is attainable to an average person. I"m not too fond of the t-rex, it looks too outworldly and too much like an R/C car.
The tri-mag has a really cool delorean feel to it (maybe its just the colors and bumper but when i saw it, i was thought "delorean".
As for my dream car, i want a Dodge Daytona or a Plymouth Superbird (forgot which years they were, 69/70?) with the hemi 6packs in them or a 69 ford mustang shelby cobra GT-500.
And maybe a fully customized hearse, like this one: http://www.termpro.com/showcars/terminator/terminator.html only with updated modern electronics and a blower ontop of a caddy 500 cu engine. THen i want to put curtains in it and paint it black and install those flame kits to the exhaust so when yoiu take off, flames shoot out the exhaust. And finally, i would have custom painted on the back of it: "Don't laugh, your daughter may be in here!"

Realistically, I would probably go for a late 1990's Ford Ranger with a four cylinder 5-speed, two wheel drive extended cab. They are very reasonable little trucks, and they go forever and a day.
A fantasy car? That would have to be a fully kitted out Lancia Delta Integrale Evoluzione 16v. or a fully kitted out Mazda Demio. Those are both very nice cars, and they're unique. I don't think I'd see anyone else in Calgary driving a Delta or a Demio
Cheers,
The Czar

tvr cerbera speed 6
without a doubt, that is definitally my dream car.
2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland

Grand total (lets see here... over $60000 to begin with then theres $40000 in parts, so around $100K, every time I send it in for service, back to germany it goes)
good luck
1968 Gulf GT40 mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
My dream cars are...
Could afford
1)1971 Ford Mach 1 Mustang
2)2005 Ford GT Mustang
3)2005 Porsche Boxster S
4)2005 Mini Cooper S Convertible
I wish
1)1965 Aston Martin DB5 ( James Bond car)
2)2005 Bentley GT (uber-sexy)
3)2005 BMW M5 (V-10 baby!)
4)1949 Ford (I don't think it had a full name. Oh! and it must be fully restored. Get my pimp on!)
Im definetly a VW fan, all my friends have one of their own. i had one before, a passat. so i guess my dream car would be a 1992 custom VR6 Turbo Syncro Passat. sounds kinda old but i liked it alot, the stock 16V i had went like hell anyways, i cant imagine what AWD and turbo would be like. The R32 is just a stock version of what i want minus the turbo and old school body its no doubt possible to make it as well, just need a couple 10 grand and ill have it built. not a super high HP machine, probly in the range of 400 hp at the wheels, but the awd would be the killer... not only that but seeing a B3 passat doing AWD cookies would get some attention
Sorry mistake
Nice cars, I am in europe and
Own:
Saab 900 turbo 16v tuned to 200bhp
Saab 96 V4 1700cc group 2 engine prep.
Suzuki Samurai Metal top 3" lift (Great!)
Hyundai Starex 4x4 3" lift (heavy 2.4 ton)
Dream:
Dodge RAM 3500 diesel (the massive one!)
Tigre (Russian version of the Hummer 350bhp straight 6 diesel)
Chaika (KGB's limo excellent copy of I think a Plymouth)
Hindustan Oxford (special Hindustan ambassador for nostalgic Brits ;))
Volga 21 (Also a Russian copy of the 50's)
and many more
Custom
Volvo 360 glt (fitted with 2.3 turbo engine from 760 turbo)
Fit a V8 to my Samurai!
Nice choice. Sold my 900i 16v a couple months ago, didn't have the space for it anymore I'm now running a 9000 2.3 Turbo as my daily driver (currently considering an ECU upgrade to extract 40 more horses from it - it's good for BMW baiting as it is, but a little more ooomph wouldn't hurt ).
Might as add my tuppence worth to the list whilst I'm at it...
Dream (mostly achievable):
1997 Saab 9000 Aero with Abbott Racing 'enhancements'
1998 Maserati Quattroporte Evoluzione V8
Citroen DS, SM, GS, or ID Break of any vintage - Not fussed, all beautiful cars with quirky charms
1997 Porsche 993 Turbo S - Has to be a yellow one!
Dream (maybe achievable):
1990 Range Rover CSK
1995 Audi RS2
1994 Lancia Delta Integrale Evo2
Dream (certainly unachievable):
1997 Mclaren F1 Gt 'Longtail' - Only 3 ever built!
Custom:
A fusion of a 1991 Saab 900 Turbo (3 door) with Per Eklund's 700hp Saab 9-3, made road legal
Dream(Most Likely to get)
95 VR Holden Commodore
96 Ford Falcon
98 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Dream(Probally afford)
99 Commodore
01 Falcon
Dream(dream dream car)
02 Viper
05 BA Falcon
05 SRT 8 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Custom
BA Falcon, 2dr convertible with 20" rims 500kw(rougly 655hp)
Err...so Holdens suck, but several of them are in your dream cars list?
What the hey?
:s
Holden's are/seem to be a lot better built than their US counterparts, and since craftmanship/engineering integrity should also play a major role in what constitutes a 'Dream Car', I'm sorry, but the vast majority of US cars since the late 30's fail on those criteria, mainly through poor build quality. However, Deusenbergs, Packards, Cords and the V12/16 Pierce-Arrows would definitely be on my list.
European cars with Figoni & Falaschi bodywork, such as Delahayes, Talbots, and Alfas; Bugatti's, even the Royale, since it's proportions disguise just how vast it is. British cars, well, the Riley roadster, Aston-Martin, Squire, Singer and Lagonda.
Modern cars, Audi, Merc Gull-wing, Bentley, TVR and Bristol.
I know i've been very unselective, but then, there's a hell of a lot of superb cars around, and I'll have to really think hard over this for a long time!
