btw... Green Jade is networked... send me a private message and I'll send you zorgitron's login (he asked for a login three weeks ago, sent it to him immediately and he's never logged in!)... you can play games and stuff (no script kiddies, please, and no malevelant hackers... this thing isn't exactly secure)

Cool. What do you have sitting below the desk? A couple of 8600/9600s (or beige G3s) and a Network Server?
200MHz Shiner (I've got scsi interfaces in all the drawers),
9600, 8600, both with G4/450 upgrades, both running Panther (and OS 9)
on top of the shiner (can't quite see it) is an 800Mhz PIII Thinkpad with 54Mb Wifi
The Thinkpad is an A22m, 64MB, 20GB HD, CD-ROM, floppy, 14" screen, 100Mbps ethernet and modem card, 54Mbps wireless PC card... its running XP Pro and is in extremely good condition (I've never taken it anywhere, rarely open it, I use it from my PB with RDC).
I thought this was a good idea... a Green Jade with a green monitor (I've never seen anyone else do this)... memory maxed, proc upgraded, no floppy, 2 hard drives... runs 2 different unices, but no one seems to care!! Where's the justice? Where is the love?
From your brief description and photo you can't even tell it's hacked. The greenish screen might just be the way it photographed!
I'm not doubting you installed a green CRT BTW, just pointing out that without the complete story (or at least some more story!) it doesn't look any different than a bone stock SE/x running a pretty common OS!

:coolmac: PPS: you might also want to use something other than MPEG4 compression, your clip isn't viewable on anything from the subject's era, that's for sure. Cinepak is a good allaround choice for backward compatability.
Its a subtle hack... but if you look at the photo you can see that the blinds are almost the same shade as the SE, giving you a white, and the apple logo is there, such that you can tell that its green... also, the other photo has a B&W monitor next to it, really giving it away that the monitor is green...
I thought it was going to be pretty obvious what I had done... so I didn't really want to say...
but, ok, when was the last time Apple made a 9" green tube?
Also... there are good reasons for the OS being so common, NetBSD is really great... and it also boots into A/UX, which is not so common (but also, not so useful)
With 128MB, and 2GB of HD space, and proc upgrade, this internet machine actually becomes a viable server, as (someone pointed out somewhere) its internal processing is faster than the 10BaseT connection... So its not just one of those token SE servers, this thing could host numerous pages and sites, have multiple simultaneous users, etc... And its 15 freakin' years old!!

Yes, XP Pro...
No problems with the HD... even though I am using massive amounts of virtual memory. I really dig RDC, too... on the home network its really fast, faster than walking across the room and lifting the shell open, though its kind of slow across the internet.
I also have IIfx ROMs...
for those SE/30 owners out there that want to run System 8... IM me with offers, they're yours

That's a nice SE/30. I've still got a little itch to do the same kinda thing to one of mine. I did paint an SE/30 in a custom green/chome mix years ago, but I've been wanting to stick 128MB RAM, that 18GB SCSI, and the Turbo 040 card in one too. No time no money no space at a colo to put it when it's done...
Nice touch on the green screen, got any details or was it a straight swap?
BTW: NetBSD maillist message on reversing the screen or try using the sceen or dt packages.
The tube itself was an upside down swap, but the screw loops still match up nicely. Its tricky getting the coil off without breaking the stalk (as its glued on), but then centering and focusing the image isn't so difficult. Check your link... takes me to some IBM keyboard thing in translation...
also, I was active for awile on the NetBSD mailing list concerning reversing the screen. Someone thought they did it, but subsequently discovered that he hadn't (did it remotely). I never saw a follow-up.
I considered dt, but I wanted to see the thing boot in reverse...
Running win2k and have tried, XP Pro too. It's slow, but not too slow.
BTW: the video card is a MagiGraph w/ 1.3MB of memory
About as fast as a 386
but twice as fast as a NeXT Cube!!

I haven't run NetBSD on an SE/30 in about 8 years, so I don't know if reversing the screen is configurable now. At the time it wasn't (at least not without hacking kernel source IIRC), but it was a configuration option in dt, which I used anyways for virtual terminals and selectable fonts (two other things lacking from netbsd/mac68k at the time, again i don't know if this is still true).
I see a reference to it here, no idea if this is the current version. Note the need to #define USE_OLD_GRF in config.h if compiling for an SE/30. http://www.us.netbsd.org/Ports/mac68k/info/info-6.html
