I've noticed that you can get several varieties of small 7" TFT screens. These quite often have VGA connectors and some also have touch screens with USB connectors. Usually the resolution is 800x480.
The question I have is: can you set OS X to run at slightly odd resolutions like this or would it autodetect it? Also is it all likely that the touch screen would work, as they only come with Windows drivers?
I haven't yet come up with a use for such a thing...
Post a couple of links. I am looking for some that fit that general description but in 8.5" - 9" and 14" sizes. Price has alway been a big obstacle too.

It's highly unlikely that the touchscreen will work unless it emulates a graphics tablet. As far as I can tell, OS X should have no problem running on that resolution at all. And, yes, please do post links. These screens could be very useful.

i beleive the way the touch screen works is it emulates a standard usb hid device so it would be compatible with anything that uses a mouse.

There seem to be quite a few makes that look pretty much the same as this one. I'm getting hold of a beige G3 minitower soon, which I'm going to stuff a big hard drive in, and rip all my CDs onto it. What I was thinking today was to use it as a little monitor for it which doesn't take up much room, and if the touch screen worked, wouldn't need a keyboard or mouse for most of the time. Does this sound plausible?
This is probably going to sound ignorant, but how would I get 800x480 available? I ask this as I've only ever ran OS X on a white iBook or Pismo, which only let you select 640x480, 800x600 or 1024x768.

it sounds like an excellent idea, as for the resolution, I have never played with 16x9 stuff to be able to answer that.
