last year, almost a year ago, i dropped my TiBook 667 DVI and broke one of the hinges. I tried to be careful, but after about a week, I accidentally messed up the video cable to the LCD, and in trying to replace the cable, I killed that display.
Since then, I have gotten two LCDs from 400/500 MHz TiBooks, the VGA models.
However, when I connect them and boot the Powerbook, with either one I get no video image at all, just a gray screen and the backlight...
any ideas?
(i tried resetting the pram with the other display(s) connected (one at a time) and then booting but that didn't help

well, if it ain't Q23 then some other chip musta got shorted when you munged the cable.
Errr, I am assuming you've got a new LVDS (display data) cable now, right?

What the problem is, is that the LCDs for the TiBook 400/500
are not compatible with 550/667 TiBooks.
They are a differnent generation, The 400/500 is codenamed Mercury.
and the 550/667 is codenamed Onyx. They use a different model of
LCD and different Inverters (power driver for LCD).
You can look here http://www.pbfixit.com/Guide/ and you can see in the images between the two models that it has a different Inverter.
Oh, and the Inverters are also not cross compatible, ie: Mercury model Inverter will not "fit" in an Onyx model TiBook.
I recommend selling the two LCD's on ebay, and buying a 550/667 model
(also on ebay).

(Also IIRC, the DVI's used even a 3rd LCD model, and may require a
a lcd directly from a 667 DVI).

Any pre-DVI LCD can work in any TiBook. Any DVI LCD can work in any TiBook. There are some caveats (some significant), but again, those aren't the issues here.

re: inverter differences. They're of no significance because the inverter is in the body of the 'Book and not in the display. All TiBook LCDs use the same CCFL (or near as dammit), so inverter is irrelevant.

the new displays are complete units, case, LCD, backlight, and cable, all attached and closed up tight
one of them came straight from a friend's 400 or 500 with a fried mobo (really only one surface mount capacitor blown, but suspected other problem, that mobo is hanging on my wall) and the other display came from an eBay auction...
