Apple II GS issue with Adtpro

Hi

I bought a usb to mini din 8 pins cable to use Adtpro with an Apple II GS and transfer files to local disks (5.25 or 3.5). https://a.aliexpress.com/_EIzLyC4

Note that I managed to test my Adtpro with someone's Apple II e (with db25 cable) from my Win PC

The apple 2 Gs doesn't have any serial card so I plugged the cable in the modem port

running the process with IN#2 and ctrl A + 14B before transferring the data, nothing happens on the 2Gs

I tried the printer port but it's the same result

Am I missing something ?

You need "null modem" cable.

You need "null modem" cable. If you don't have that, it won't work. RX/TX have to be reversed.

The IIe "super serial" card has a jumper setting for this, so you don't need it and can use a regular serial cable, however the IIgs doesn't.

Thanks for your reply.does a

Thanks for your reply.

does a USB to  8 pins mini din cable exist as seen on the video tutorial ?

any link to find a similar cable ?

Alternatively I guess I can reverse the rx/tx with 7 pins mini din male and female  plugs with a custom wiring

There are loads of 9-pin null

There are loads of 9-pin null modem adapters available from any number of suppliers, including this example from Digikey for $6 Canadian:https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/advantech-corporation/BB-31D1-28100/18697745

Use this with a standard IIGS modem cable, a DB25 to DE-9 adapter (and you might also need a gender changer).

This is the setup you'll need to connect to your 9-pin USB-to-serial adapter on your modern computer.

Alternatively, you could buy the $24 IIGS connection cable (which is a null-modem cable) from retrofloppy and dispense with all the adapters.

https://retrofloppy.com/products/

On this page you can also buy a tested FTDI based USB-to-serial adapter that is the correct version for ADTPro use.

best

In my opinion the simplest and best approach is to use a USB-Serial adapter with MiniDIN-8 sockets, and a null-modem MiniDIN-8 cable. This is called an "ImageWriter II cable" because connecting a serial printer to a computer requires a null-modem cable.

The simplest is still the Retrofloppy cable because it's alread a DE-9 connection and all you'd need to do is plug it into the USB-to-Serial adapter.

I would try the DB9 null

I would try the DB9 null modem adpater suggested by baldrick - they can be bought on amazon and alixpess, just make sure you get the right genders for the Aliexpress serial cable you have, and the usb adapter you have since the null modem adapter will go inbetween them.

I made an ADTPro cable (a null modem serial cable) using an old MiniDIN-8 cable, a DB9 breakout board and the instructions on this page https://adtpro.com/connectionsserial.html#MiniDIN8

Very very very unlikely to be the right pinout. Almost no chance.
