I have another AIIc with no gray/tan FD door/latch/lever, and no spring
Does anyone have an extra they would be willing to part with for a reasonable price?
Or is there a store site that might have them?
None currently showing on evilbay.
If this is the wrong forum for this type of request please let me know.
Thanks
I also have an Apple IIc missing parts of the disk drive door latch mechanics.
Did not find replacement parts but looked for years.
Seems the only way to get these parts is to cannibalize another Apple IIc.
I so also have a theory how this comes about:
People have Apple IIc which won't boot (may even show a boot error message implying a bad disk drive).
They take the thing apart and start tinkering with the disk drive to no avail.
But they don't see the real reason - bad DRAMs causing the boot to fail - and give up.
But they don't put everything together again, so parts are loose.
And then some parts get lost ...
Years later they find the sad (and incomplete) remains again and decide to sell on Ebay.
And this is how you and me ended up with Apple IIc missing disk drive door latches.

I have never owned a //c, but if I remember how that drive door worked it seems like it might be a good candidate for a 3D printed replacement plus a few small metal parts.
3D printing and creating models to generate the .STL files is something I've always wanted to get into, but I haven't been able to justify buying a 3D printer since the good ones are fairly pricey. I probably should join one of the co-op co-working maker facilities around here that offers monthly memberships to get access to that kind of gear and also has classes on how to use it (mandatory for some things, especially a lot of stuff that has safety issues like the wood and metal shops (saws, plasma cutters, welders, etc., all stuff that even for people who've used before a refreser isn't a bad idea).
Thanks both of you for repling.
Most kind!!
Good story.
I looked on Thingiverse before posting here.
There is nothing that will work for IIc currently there.
I do not like the idea of killing one IIC to fix another IIc.
I guess I will watch eveilbay and other sites for a drive that is unsalvageable (bad stepper motor, missing r/w head, that sort of thing. )
Thansk!

Uncle Bernie gives a hint:
Very rarely, somebody sells the bits & pieces of a disassembled Apple IIc in Ebay (I like the term 'Evilbay' because they changed their rules and fees to the dark side, but for the sake of understanding for all readers it still use the term 'Ebay')
So if you see any parts of an Apple II, look for 'other items of seller' and maybe there is the disk drive, complete with the latching mechanism.
You can risk to buy a 'defective' disk drive as long as the latching mechanism is complete and works. It's just a few screws to swap the faceplate with a good latching mechanism to a known good drive.
