Help identifying a game

Hi all

I need your help in identifying a game I used to play when I was a kid - I am assuming it was on the Apple //e, I hope I am not mistaking it with my friend's C64.

Memory is blurry but it was played on different levels, all shown on screen as "floors". You could use some lifts to go from one level to another. If not mistaken you could walk "out of the screen" and another whole set of floors would appear.

The lifts used to make some weird noise and, as a kid, I was a bit scared by that! Maybe it's incorrect but robots were involved?

Does someone know what I am talking about?

Thank you!

Thank you! I played it a bit

Thank you! I played it a bit - on my actual Apple //e - and it rings a bell but it's not the one I had in mind (assuming it's an actual memory!). The screen layout is similar but I kind of remember a more gloomy atmosphere and slow pace. Maybe the player had to browse and look for things? Again, this could totally be my brain making things up :)

Thanks for now, and I like Hard Hat Mack!

There were a ton of "level" or "platform" games with ladders and elevators and stuff...  Lots of different spins on things like Mario and Bugertime, etc...  Stuff like Apple Cider Spider or Willy Byte.  Maybe check and see if any of the titles here ring a bell?  This list is nowhere near complete, there were literally thousands of games out for the Apple II between 1979-1993 or so.

I appreciate it's a needle in

I appreciate it's a needle in a haystack! I've had my Apple 2 for a while now and been browsing those lists before. I was hoping someone could have an idea.

Took a look at Apple Cider Spider and Willy Byte but no...

Thanks for now!

It sounds a lot like

It sounds a lot like Impossible Mission.  It was a Commodore 64 game; AFAIK it was not ported to the Apple, so perhaps you're remembering playing it at your friend's house.

Bingo! That's it!

Must have been at my friend's then! Thank you so much!

Edit: found videos of the Impossible Mission for the Apple 2 - I'll see if I can find it!

Actually both Impossible

Actually both Impossible Mission and Impossible Mission II were ported to the Apple II and today are both part of the Total Replay collection.
