In my favourite & most personally meaningful video to date, I try to recreate my Apple //e childhood setup & more. As you’ll see, that little Apple is by far the more nostalgic & emotional memory for me. I hope you get some nostalgia hits from it too.

This is really awesome. I will have to watch it in full, perhaps I'll leave it on while I do some soldering in a bit.
I need to recreate a photo from when I was in school; I have a photo of myself in school 30 years ago, at an Apple IIe with a single 5.25 drive. I have everything except the correct monitor and physical desk to recreate it, hopefully I can finish this quest soon.
Looks like a fun rook. I was jealous when I though you had pictures of your setup. I haven't found any pictures of my //e setup, but I did have some of the 2600 setup and my room with the IIGS from a few years later."Around 1981" are you sure it was a //e? I had one of the first hundred and that was in very early 1983 at that was in the US.
I need to figure out how you get away with that music without getting the copyright dings, or do you have issues?
Are you planning on using the UK UPS with a 12V battery you've charged with 60Hz charging? There are devices that can convert 60 to 50 but they are pricy... more for lab work and >$1000.
Well done video - that did take significant effort - even just to find and recreate all this stuff. I'm always in for restoring devices to their original state. Ok, maybe recreating the whole room setup including childhood posters went a bit far. But no one in here in this retro forum is in a position to argue! :-D
You know, I've never been sure about the dates. I felt like I was 9 but I keep being reminded it was probably later. It was definitely a //e though.
YouTube automatic matches the songs to artists and creates a claim. This isn't a black mark or a strike but what it does is take all ad revenue and share it among those artists instead of me. I'm fine with that for such a special video that I just wanted to get out there.
Glad you liked it! Nice username and avatar BTW!
And yes I'm using a 12V battery charged at 60Hz. As soon as I charge it, it starts outputting 60Hz instead of 50. If I disconnect the battery completely it goes back to 50Hz. Any idea why?
Do you know of a step up converter that reliably does frequency too? I'd be willing to spend a fair amount.
That's interesting on the UPS, seems like it matches the source by default which does make sense. Which UPS are you using?
As to the converter the one I've used in the lab is the Adaptive Power FC200 which... will do what you want but is a beast, weighs like 100lbs and cost like $2k. It can change output voltage and frequency made for the lab. They make several other models so maybe something else would be a better fit...FC200 Frequency Converter - Adaptive Power Systems
My guess is the output is tied to the input frequency, until power is lost but disconnecting the battery seems like a PITA is there any way to manually trip the breaker to get the hard restart? I'd also check if powerchute has any option for forcing the ouput frequency.
//e was definitely not available before early 1983.
I'm guessing the context of your comment is because I mentioned I was 9 or 10 when my dad brought it home and I was born in Jan 1973. I have never been very clear on the exact dates, but I know he had one of the first //e machines from that shop. So most likely I was 10 and it was early 1983. Feels like March in my memories.
Apologies for the blank posts. Website kept saying it had encountered an error. Turns out it didn't like that I used an emoji.
I swear I'd have most dates wrong if it wasn't for some major life event... and it wasn't getting the computer!
I'm also very happy pictures from those days often had processing date stamped on the back which is helpful as we age!
