solid state drive in an iBook G3

I have a dual USB iBook G3 500Mhz.

I would like to replace the aging 10GB hard drive with a 16GB solid state drive.

Here is one:

Will this work? Has anyone done this before?

I would think that it would work, except for, check the physical clearance. The picture looks like its not a standard height 2.5" drive

I bought a Mercury SSD for my Pismo and after installing it there was hardly any real increase in speed, etc. I called Other World Computing where I purchased it and they were very helpful and eventually took it back since my architecture couldn't handle it.

I appreciate you replying. For my purpose, I am not looking for any real increases in speed.

I am interested in:
- will it work?
- Mac OS X 10.3, will it boot?
- will it keep working for a very very long time?
- the old hard drive is noisy, are the solid state drives quiet?
- can I install it myself?
- not too important, but might it save a little bit of power?

Should work fine - I know folks have put even larger capacity drives in iBooks. The only consideration would be whether the drive REQUIRED a hotter controller spec than the original, but I can't imagine that the drive wouldn't work with the older controllers too.

No experience, sorry, but the spec looks fine from here.

Will it work yes (as long as it physically fits), it will be very quiet, if your somewhat handy it can be done by yourself it's not too hard. The solid state drives are very reliable and should out love the iBook you put it in. Not a bad price either immthinking about getting a larger one for my old PowerBook 3400 if that would work but it may just be to dang old
