I think I made a big mistake. I left my Wallstreet open on my desk, and my cat happened to go walking on it, and renamed the HD. (The HDs name is something like "..,mklkl/." was "Mac HD") And I dont like that. Mac OS wont let me do the thing where I click on the HD then leave my cursor over it, then rename like with other files. I really dont want to have to reinstall the system.... I have 9.2.2 on there.
Thanks,
John
...but have you clicked on it once and pressed return? Or tried to change the name from the Get Info box?
Go into control panels and turn off file sharing then try and rename it.
Pretty smart moggy.
Trample on Return key and tread on a few more keys to rename the hard disk. Then move mouse over Apple menu, press the mouse button, select Control Panels in the hierarchichal menu and locate and operate the Sharing control panel (which Mac OS has named in so many different ways) to enable file sharing. Just so that you, feline owner, can't rename the disk "Mac HD".
Sell the cat to a circus -- it is a lot smarter than many Mac users that I have encountered.
Restart from a floppy, CD, or external SCSI drive and rename it from there
Botting of a OS 9 CD worked fine. And file sharing was enabled, but some the second the computer woke up, it didnt do anything allowing her to rename the HD.

Get Info (Apple-I) for the HD and go to the sharing submenu. Switch off sharing for that disk and try again.
