Hello Everyone,
I am in the process of recapping the power supply for my 10MB Profile HD to try to get it working again. About 10 years ago when it was lasted plugged in the magic smoke came out of the back of the drive. One of the bypass .01uf caps is broken in two so I suspect it was the smoker.
I need some advise on when I get it going what to hook it up to. I have a Lisa 2/10 with the X/Profile CF drive in it. I removed the 10MB Widget drive so I don't think this Profile will connect to it. I also have a Apple /// but do not have any cards in the computer. The Apple /// boots fine with the floppy drive.
What do I need to get it connected? Will it work with the Lisa? Apple ///?
Thanks,Eric
You need a ProFile interface card. I have a LISA ProFile card, that I saved in the event that I ever again have a LISA, and can get you p/ns and photos if you want. The Apple /// and the Apple ][ also have their own ProFile cards: The interface card in unique to each system.
The ProFile itself has a self-test mode and you do not need to connect it to test it. I advise lubricating the drive mechanism, ere using it. If it refuses to spin up, lubrication and a manual spin will usually fix it.
Thank you. I will be chaning the CAPS tomorrow and will advise on startup.
Not a problem. Please LMK if you need further details on running the selfstart test, or on restoring the drive in general. Once I have verified my ProFile interface, I would also be willing to help you test it and set it up, if needed. IDK if you intend to use it on a ][. a ///, or a LISA. I am going to be working on a clone ProFile controller for the ][ that is open source.
Got it to power up. No smoke!!!! I have an Lisa 2/10 and it does not have a port for this drive. I also have a Apple /// but do not have a card yet. I do not know what is on this drive or if it was used on a LISA or ///. It is a 10MB version. I popped out all of the chips, cleaned the pins, and re-seatted. When I start it up (did this a bunch of times) I get reliably basicially the same functionally.
Here is a video (it takes 10 minutes to get to a steady red light). I uploaded the video to my dropbox since the file is almost 1 G.

Let me know what you think is going on and what my next steps should be?
Thanks,
Eric

Hello Everyone,
Happy New Year!! It's 1982 and we just got our 10MB Profile Hard Drive!!! I have no idea what we will every do with 10MB!!! It will last us decades!!!
The only problem I have is that the disk that is suppose to be with our Profile Hard Drive must of been stolen by the mailman since I know their is a BIG underground market for Profile HD device drivers.
So does anyone have an extra disk they can send me so I can get my profile drive working? Thank you!!
Eric
What OS do you want to use? PASCAL or ProDOS?
Well everyone, I got the 10MB Profile drive working. It appears to be formatted for an Apple //. I don't want to format it for SOS so I will look for an Apple // controller card.

It is formatted for ProDOS. Unless I am wildly wrong, the filesystem for ProDOS and SOS are interchangeable, so you can put Apple /// software on it as-is. I will let you know if and when I approach a reliable clone controller card. IMO. you are better off with the proFile on the /// and a ReActive CF card drive or something on a //e.
If you can ever find one, I will note that the AE Apple //e emulation card for the /// (Titan Plus IIe) worked very well, so if you ever come across one, it is worth buying. We used it for years in the company /// system. This did require modifying the /// ProFile controller, but it exists as an option. Do not install this product witha ProFile without following the steps in the manual for it.
