Apple II GS RGB Monitor Issue

I just recieved a Apple II GS for my classroom. I doubt it's been used in forever.

The Macintosh Color Monitor that it came with isn't working. I can hook up a Composite display just fine. Where should I start troubleshooting on this?

You have the wrong monitor.

You have the wrong monitor. Mac monitors won't work with the IIgs. The IIgs uses the A2M6014

Let us hope that using that monitor did not also fry anything. The signals are completely different. Until you gind an appropriate 15KHz monitor, use the composite out. You can also adapt the signal if needed to use with that 1084.

IIgs adapters are now out there

https://www.reactivemicro.com/product/apple-iigs-vga-adapter-with-enclosure-from-manila-gear/  $50. The manufacturer has the IIgs afapter on its own website as well. There are also a method involving soldering some points at the connector and 9-pin to mac adapter, I think, and other $25~ HD VGA Arcade boards to bring it up to acceptable viewing on a modern HD flat screen. It used to be a huge pain finding the 15Mhz? monitors, but its less so with prevalence of cheap adapters for 8-bit machines and old VCRs and quite a number of vintage gear, but this usually involves at least two adapters together.  The solution is easier than finding a new screen for a B&W classic mac, for example.
