Decided to work on my 'display' Apple today since it's sat next to me for years and I've fixed up all my others. It's a 1979 48K Rev 3 and surprisingly the only thing wrong with it is a dead keyboard encoder (it's the single board version of the keyboard). I borrowed a keyboard from a Europlus and all is good motherboard-wise, even RAM tests pass OK.
Searching the forums here shows nobody has asked about the MM5740 series since Aug 2015 so I'm wondering if anyone's managed to shoehorn an Arduino in there yet?

I quit a version of that project after determining that there was no room for a stacked socket chip solution.

Thanks for the reply, your pages have been invaluable in helping me fix up several old dears in the last few months so cheers for that! In between posting my question and now I remembered a machine I had - Tangerine MicroTAN 65 - that the previous owner had grafted an Apple ][ keyboard onto, original one with black keys. The encoder from that one still works so at least I know everything in this machine is currently OK. Guess I'll put it back as my display machine for now.
